I am sending this out on behalf of Senator Green's office, call for letters of support and documentation of problems with county gun boards state wide. Please send a letter to your senator, members of the judiciary committee and Senator Green, contact information is included or you can send it to me and I'll forward it to Senator Green's office. Send this out to all of your pro gun contacts around the state of Michigan. Senate Bill 59 S-2 is going to be addressed again next week before the judiciary committee for comments. So far the Co. Clerks have come out in opposition, they also said the Sheriffs and Prosecutors associations were opposed, this is for the people to decide not the bureaucrats protecting their turf and our dollars and choices.

A request for support from Senator Green’s office:

Senator Green’s staff has requested that letters of support for SB0059 S2 be sent immediately. Letters should be sent to your district senator, members of the judiciary committee and a copy to his office, contact information below. Also looking for violations of the law, additional fees or costs by counties, excessive delays, abuses, etc…

Back ground:
The judiciary committee held a hearing on Nov 1, 2011, this was scheduled for SB0059, then a substitute bill #1 was introduced published and distributed, then an hour before the hearing substitute bill #2 was asked for by Senator Jones. Hence, it was not widely distributed but available to those attending the hearing with little time for analysis.

Sub #2 did not alter the basic bill but did address a couple of minor issues.

During the bill’s introduction, Senator Green addressed the fact that not all counties were user friendly and were not following the spirit nor the letter of the law. His introductory remarks were followed by two ladies, one of which is the Kent Co. clerk saying she was representing the Michigan County Clerks organization. Part of her testimony was that Kent Co. was doing an excellent job and issuing in a timely manner, she also stressed that neither the Sheriff’s Organization nor were the Prosecutors in favor of changing the way concealed pistol permits were issued and she didn’t know about the MSP.

My personal feelings about the Clerks, Sheriffs and Prosecutors being against this bill is they are just bureaucrats trying to remain in control of the income the concealed weapons permit process is generating for their counties.

If these few individuals are able to control the outcome of this legislation there will be little or no incentive for improvement or progress in reforming the multiple bureaucracies.

The clerks, sheriffs and prosecutors are all elected officials and work for us, not the other way around.

This is not meant to paint a broad brush on all of these individuals being under the same umbrella, because they aren’t. Some are very pro concealed pistol advocates and their county boards as a rule reflect this. However, these pro concealed pistol advocates cannot reform those that are hindering the process. Therefore; general state wide changes are necessary from the grass roots for the grass roots.

I will be quite blunt here.

On behalf of SB 0059, there were two individuals that offered verbal testimony, one of which was well presented and very supportive, the other which I will not identify here undermined Senator Green’s premise that there were problems.

Specifically, this individual pointed out that Wayne County was no longer a "problem" county, and doing a good job as a result of "his" efforts to reform them, and that was his testimony despite stating previously he supported the bill.

As a result, this call for letters, faxes and emails was asked for.

Here is specific contact information that I could locate on the committee and bill sponsor. A link to the individual legislators is:
