I discovered that my AR shoots a better with the handgaurds off and the POI changes when I use the sling in the prone position. So I think I want to get a free float tube and mount a sling swivel to it. Anybody know were I can find a midlength free float tube without breaking the bank? All I the ones I can find are real expensive. I don't want an ultra cool railed one able to mount everything but the kitchen sink but just a piece of pipe.

Most free-float tubes will require that you remove the barrel nut and/or delta ring, which usually requires that the front sight be removed or that you dremel off the delta ring. It's not a trival task. It's not HARD, but you do need to know what you're doing.

If you're ok with that work, I am really very fond of using a simple non-railed 'customizable' YHM forearm, which is the same product on the DPMS link above. I have a number of them, and you can add/remove discrete rail sections as needed.

For a basic tube with no mount points, the Model1Sales tube is actually pretty sturdy.

clark custom has a carbon fiber handguard much cheaper, but it's definitely not a hard-use item

Thanks.

The Model 1 Sales would look good if they just had one for a Mid length.

As for my price range. I just want to go as cheap as possible without buying crap. Just something that will work and stand up to real world use. What could I get for say a 100 dollars give or take?

You could get a rifle length and cut it down. If you screw it up you can get another and still come in under the budget.

If you arent comfortable cutting it down you could probably pay a local machine shop to cut and deburr it and still come in under $100 when its all said and done.

I'd take it to a local muffler shop, have them cut it in the chopsaw, I'd deburr the edges by hand with a file, and touch up the bare aluminum with some Dupli-color bumber and trim touch up paint (I think thats what its called anyway). It matches the anodizing of my BM lower perfectly, I had to file on the triggerguard tangs to get the magpul triggerguard to fit.
