Where's all the fans of the 700 fps .177 and the 550+ .22's? Remember it's only the last 15 or so years that ultra velocity rifles exhistd Before tht 750fps was dynamic!

I guess I'm one. My favorite airgun shoots about 650fps with the 7.9 Crosman Premiers. It's an R7.
 
My old bamjamin 342 pushes a 14.3 gn pellet out at 505 with 5 pumps or one can spice it up to 647 with 10 pumps.
 
I LOVE both my HW 30 S, (under 700fps) and my Benjamin .22 cal variable pump 392also!
Power is fine but relaxing shooting is more fun!

Back then they really only existed because it's all we had. Some are still available but imo it's better to mod a higher powered gun to be weaker. Depends on the type tho.
The one I modded (generic 1000/1200fps Crosman) still exceeds 700 in 177 but it's extremely easy to cock (12lbs at peak), gentle and quiet shooting. Quite a bit different than a gun of equal power that was at its max. A factory 700fps gun will likely be 18 to 24 to cock. To bring mine down to 700 with 7.9gr I suppose it would be ~10lbs to cock. As it is 12 is so easy it feels like it's broke or something.
I also put a suppressor from a Trail on it and tuned it so it's the quietest smoothest break barrel I've ever seen/heard. I think the Stoeger X20S would be an excellent gun to mod that way too since it has an excellent suppressor.
 
I have the Crosman 2260 (the original) and it's definitely a lot of fun and plenty powerful for my needs. The rifle is simple, lightweight and handy. 600 fps with no pumping. I have enough CO2 and pellets to last many years.
