Midway USA and Hazmat Drivers??

Now they put new hires through a training class and then they start on the sorting or loading line, without any supervision.
I can vouch for this quote. My son is a manager at a major UPS hub and he sometimes has to fill in at the training role. He doesn’t like it because he knows out of 100 new hires, maybe 1 or 2 will last longer than the 12 weeks it takes to re-qualify for unemployment.
My last 3 hazmat orders were all delayed, two from Midway who said “No hazmat drivers”. Midway USA is my go-to retailer, but I think in this case they’re giving the expedient answer, not necessarily the true answer.
UPS only accepts hazmat shipments on a contract basis. I suspect the details of Midways contract is a good portion of the reason for their long hazmat shipment times.
Midway’s ‘economy’ shipping is the “bottom of the barrel, we’ll ship it when we’re not busy with something else” service. That’s USPS, not Midway. Midway is great about getting it to USPS, but then it may sit in several warehouses for many days before it arrives. I’ve spoken to Midway a few times about this but they claim we all want the mule-train service.

I can attest to this… My buddies who’s a restaurant owner, said people are only willing to work under the table

Being a deivery driver at ups there is no hazmat certification that I am aware of. Like I read from someone else maybe out east that’s the way it is but where I’m at in wa if it’s on your truck you deliver it hazmat or not. I’ve never heard of being hazmat certified unless that’s something long haul drivers do I can’t speak to that but delivery or pickup(from certified hazmat shipping business), hazmat or not, you deliver it or pick it up. As to different drivers delivering hazmat, like I said no hazmat requirement, if it’s a regular workers or a fill in on their first day for a specific route there is no stipulation as to who can deliver a hazmat package.
Like I said that’s how it is here it may be different elsewhere but I would think such a large company would keep the same “rules” nationwide.
Just my two cents.

I also have no idea about how much hazmat can be on a truck or not. I’ve never heard of that but I work in a rural area so it may never be an issue with discussing.

I kinda miss the days when I could order a few thousand primers and they'd come in an ammo can with the only "packing material" being the .50 cal armor piercing incendiary bullets I'd also ordered.

No hazmat fees... :)

We had a 1.5” steel plate at our deer lease. We shot it with everything and nothing would got through. My brother comes down from Arkansas with a new toy and loaded some .50 HE incendiary AP (that’s what he said) and it punched a clean hole right through like hot butter knife

Hey all,
I’ve had this issue wud midway twice. I called them and they said it was an issue with a shortage of hazmat drivers. I say it’s an issue with not getting my purchase from midway. I also had the issue with Brownells and they also state the problem is with UPS. I think they both don’t understand we but these things from them not the carrier. I will not make the mistake(s) again, I will start buying locally.

Just wondering if anybody else is having a problem with getting delivery of their hazmat orders. Back on the 26th of July I was able to grab a brick of SPP and a brick of LPP. After a couple of days I received my UPS tracking number and an expected delivery date of Friday the 30th. When I didn't get the package I checked the UPS number and it now says for an updated delivery date check back tomorrow. Well this is still going on and no end in sight. After a couple of calls direct to Midway they explain that UPS does not have enough trained drivers to handle Hazmat and are running about 2 weeks or more behind. They indicate that UPS has the package but has not scanned it in for delivery, never had this issue before. Has anyone else had a hazmat packaged delayed from Midway?
