I always check to see what's cheaper when buying things like holsters, gun parts, etc. In the past it was always Amazon. Today I notice that for a particular holster they are both priced the same, both free shipping. Considering no sales tax charged by Midway, Midway is cheaper overall. (I understand "use" tax and my "obligation").

All things being equal, I would rather support Larry Potterfield any day of the week.

Its nice to see that Midway "gets it".

Neither is supposed to charge sales tax. They're only supposed to collect it. :D

I can't remember the latest regulations regarding whether or not companies are required to collect it on internet orders, though.. I was under the impression that they had to if they had a B&M store, but that would make it the other way around with Amazon and Midway USA..

I think the latest is since Amazon opened a distribution center in Florida, now any sales to Florida residents are subject to sales tax.

I have Amazon Prime so it's mostly Amazon and only Midway if they are less (incl. shipping) - but that rarely happens.

For a company with "anti-gun" activities (sponsoring buy-backs etc) ... Amazon sells a lot of gun stuff ;) I mean everything short of actual weapons and magazines. In the end they are capitalists and sell whatever makes them $$$.

Yep, plus I know Amazon has that Smile program, but I bet it will never match something like this:

What I haven't figured about is why the tax Amazon collects isn't at the State of Alabama's sales tax rate- it's about half that.

We should absolutely support companies that are dedicated to the cause over Amazon and eBay whenever possible.

Having said that, there are certainly times when it is far more cost effective. I have never bought gun related stuff on eBay (sold a bunch, though), but when the difference between Amazon and Midway on something like my Streamlight TLR-1S is $20 or more and my Prime membership also gives me free 2 day shipping, that's easy math.

It's the same kind of reasoning I use for whether to buy local or online. When the price difference is only $3 or $5 on a $100 item or $20 on a $500 item, I'll support locals. When the nearby B&M want $699 and Amazon or eBay have it for $485, well..............Duh.

I have always been a Midwsy customer because I like how Larry Potterfield supports the 2A. Not only died Midwsy contribute with the NRA Roundup Larry has donated an awful lot of his own money too.

I made my first order last night since they changed their shipping rates. I ordered two speedloaders, a leather hks speedloader pouch, and a bianchi leather holster, and it was $3.99 shipping.

Amazon IS required to collect sales tax in any state that they have a physical presence (Distribution center), but they generally only collect the state sales tax, not the total you would otherwise pay that would include county and city/town sales taxes.

If/when the Feds pass another stupid law requiring internet sellers to collect ALL sales taxes for state and local jurisdictions (I assume based on the shipping address to “Level the playing field”), it will negate the benefits of internet transactions. If that happens, you will then have to pay, in theory, the same amount of tax, local or internet, plus the shipping charges for internet purchases.

I got charged a $3 handling fee but got free shipping from Midway. I figured the shipping was free because the stuff was NCstar and had all bad reviews.

Can't recall at the moment, but I was charged $15 insurance for a cheap thing, to make up for the free shipping, by an I-net company.

I app0reciate Midway trying to lower shipping costs. Amazon prime is pretty good, too.

I don't shop around much, but I generally don't make really large purchases. Most of mine are less than $100. I just go to Midway and get what I need.
Maybe if I were spending several hundred dollars I'd shop a little more, but I really like Midway and the way they do things. First class operation.
