The kids like shooting 22's. I have a small supply and it sucks when I tell them we can only shoot a little bit. I could order online but after the shipping charges, whats the point?

For those who did not plan ahead on ammo, most don't have much of a choice.

So how do we plan for the shootings. No shooting, no rush on anything, no political push.

Also what does one plan for. A short term shortage, a multi year shortage, higher ammunition taxes, state imposed ammunition purchase limits,no internet purchases of ammo and who knows what other barriers people can think up. Then you add in how much it costs which has a direct impact on how much if any an individual can stockpile.

uh...the point is that you can still get .22lr for very good prices online (generally speaking, and once in awhile right now), even after shipping.

You need to learn how to buy ammo online, I think.

Here is a sample list of retailers to check when looking for ammo (different ones are better for different types of ammo):

www.sgammo.com
www.ammunition2go.com
www.aimsurplus.com
www.natchezss.com
www.tds-us.com
www.midwayusa.com
www.targetsportsusa.com
www.cabelas.com
www.streichers.com

1) A two-year supply of range ammo is sufficient. After the first year, you may want to change your shooting habits to stretch the remainder out longer.

2) It's a whole lot easier to stockpile ammo than gasoline.

It's also a whole lot easier to maintain your way of life without a particular firearm/ammo-type than without a vehicle/gasoline.

Sorta hard to do if you happen to be the youngster who received a .22 for Christmas or Birthday.

That would be unfortunate if nobody in the younger's family thought to have some .22lr sitting around.

In my experience youngsters who get firearms for gifts, and are expected to go shoot said firearms, have multiple shooters/firearm enthusiasts in the family.

That's what I've been trying to say yet noone listens. The ammo is simply not making it to the stores and when it does it may be only one case or even less. Where is it. I wish I knew. In my area the the slow improvement in supply seems to be going downhill. Less 9mm,22lr and other calibers.

That is not what the stores in my area are telling me. They are saying that they are ordering, receiving and selling more ammo then they ever have. It's coming in you just have to be quick to buy it.

Just took inventory, and not being a big rimfire shooter, I was shocked at what I had socked away: 2950 Aguila .22LR Subsonic, 3950 Remington .22LR Thunderbolt, and 3000 Remington .22LR Target (white box mil surplus) Guess I'm good for awhile! :neener::)

.22LR I can find. What I cannot find is .17 Mach 2. I stocked up on both rounds last year. I still have ~300 rounds of 17 on hand.

Ever since Hornady cut off everything but their core ammo business I have not been able to find 17hm2 anywhere.

To answer the OP, no I'll keep my guns. Ammo will come back even if I run out.

Last weekend I scored 150 rounds of CCI stingers and last night I scored 300 rounds of CCI mini mags at my "local" Wal-Mart. 40 mile drive. Also managed to gather up 200 rounds of 38 special FMJs, 100 rounds if .357 FMJs, and 40 rounds of .357 hps. Would have bought more but I need to keep my wallet happy.
