Dave's -- what's going on?

Another good shop to check out is Dave's Guns in Aurora. It's an easy drive from the Springs and they have a good selection and decent prices...plus, they'll normally negotiate.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I stopped into Dave's last week and the place looked...sparse. The rifle racks behind the counter were 2/3 empty, as were the glass display cases. The employees seemed unusually quiet, and (most strange of all) only about half of the overhead flourescent lights were on. :scrutiny: Oh, and the front of the store, near the door, was all martial arts stuff. Anyone know if this is a temporary condition/remodel or something more...ominous?

On a related note, as I was heading further south on Parker Rd. I noticed Rob's Guns is gone. Don't know how long that's been, I don't get over to that part of town too much.

I'm sure Bass Pro shops, Sportsman's Warehouse, Gander Mountain (and soon Cabelas) coming to Denver have put quite the squeeze on our local gun shops. Will any survive?

Denver is a PITA, but one night my buddy and I got into a conversation with an older cop, and he basically said that if we had the proper license, he could care less if we carried or not. On the flip side, this younger cop sneered at me and asked me why I needed to carry a gun, to which I responded "Are you going to be available to protect me when someone breaks into my house?" That led to a philosophical argument which ended with me saying "look dude, I have a purple heart and a Bronze star with a V. I know what I am doing".

Basically, I made an ass out of myself. Good job, me....

DouglasW, Loveland has had a Sportsmans Warehouse for a few years now, and Jensen Arms is doing well enough that he actually moved to a bigger store. Its a function of being competitive, which he is. Jensen himself is a little wacky, but I can't say that I have ever seen anyone work harder to save his customers a dollar or two. Plus, on more than one occasion he has been cheaper than Sportsmans...

Jensen's

Competing against the big box stores isn't impossible, just difficult. I keep hearing great things about Jensen's. They're at the top of my list when I get a chance to do a gunshop roadtrip...

Jensens is where I go

+1 for Jensens in Loveland. I pick up a gun a month there. Always the best prices on firearms and ammo. They also carry only the best guns and ALL of the best guns. Not a hunting store - a real armory. I don't "shop around" anymore because I always find the best price at Jensens (No, I don't work there or own the store - just shop there).
