I might move to Oklahoma in the next week or two. Kind of a sudden thing but I can get a great job if I do it. I am worried about a few things....

1. I have a CCW here in AZ, and they honor it, but open carry is a no go if I read correctly on packing.org?

2. A suppressor was on my short list, but now I wonder if its legal to get one there. What about FA?

3. Is OK flat, hilly, or flat and hilly? Trees? Windy? Prairie dogs? Golfers? Ground hogs? What? My .204 wants to know. I don't know much about the state other than I would have the opportunity to live out in the country and that has basically sealed the deal as far as I am concerned. :D

And last, but certainly not least....

4. What about EBRs?

Welcome to Oklahoma.

1. yes, open carry is a no no.

2. I do not know.

3. It depends on where you live. I live in the south east corner of the state, very hilly, all kinds of critters to shoot also. The western half of the state is about flat as a pancake.

4. Again, I do not know, but it is quite likely legal. Oklahoma is a very loose state concerning firearms.

Suppressors and FA stuff can be had here in OK. Just gotta do the paperwork.

Oklahoma is pretty flat, although there are hills in certain areas and you should be able to set up a safe place to shoot if you decide to buy land.

It can get very windy here. Tornados do happen, but I don't worry about them too much. Insurance my man. It can be very hot one day, and very cold the next. The winters seem to be getting shorter every year though....

Yes, EBRs are A OK here! As stated Oklahoma is a very lax place when it comes to guns. Non-permit holders are allowed to carry long guns with loaded mags and empty chambers, keeping a loaded pistol in your car is a $70 ticket if you do not have a permit to carry. Concealed carry is legal here and you can get your permit for a couple hundred bucks after you become a resident.

My best friend's father-in-law moved to OK a few months ago, onto a 975 acre ranch outside Ada. He's a retired Hurst, TX cop and bigtime gun enthusiast. I've asked him about what we can and cant bring to OK, and he said that if its legal in TX, its likely legal in OK. I'm guessing that EBR's are ok, he brought his AR-15s with him.

If long range shooting is something you like , it has plenty of that . When stationed there(Ft Sill) my buddy and I would go on prarie dog shooting sprees. 200-400 yds was what we did , and the farmer who let us onto his property would pay us $2 a tail at the end of the day . Not sure if you can still do that there (was there early 90s ) .

Oklahoma is a very wide state, so we have all kinds of climate and terrain.

It rains about 45 inches a year in the east and about 10 inches a year in the panhandle. In between is in between.

We're far from the ocean, so we have hot summers and cold winters. Fall and spring are very pleasant everywhere in the state.

Golf, shooting, and football are all big here. Tulsa and Oklahoma City are the largest cities, and each has one or more very good gun clubs.

It's hilly in the eastern 1/4, the north central, and a few spots out west. Most of the central and western parts of the state are pretty flat.

If you would tell us what city or area you're looking at, we could be a lot more specific.

Terrain varies by region. Eastern OK is mostly wooded hills and valleys, mixed in the center, western lots of flat open spaces and rolling hills, with southwest having a lot of rocky rolling hills.

And as a guy in Basic at Fort Sill told my son, "You've got tarantulas and scorpions and all kinds of critters I never saw before running around!"

Bring all your toys. Lots of horse tradin' goes on on the local okshooters.com board.

Expect your CWL (Concealed weapon license) to take the full 90 days allowed by law. Not a conspiracy, it's just the process with the state bureau of investigation. OK recognizes ANY permit issued by ANY state, so reciprocity is not up to the AG. Not sure if that means your AZ permit will remain valid while you're waiting on your OK permit. Better give the OSBI a call and ask em. They're usually pretty cool.

I also heard there's some good prairie dog hunting out in the panhandle. Some local ranchers will even give you ammo to help get rid of the varmints. :)

I'm pretty sure that golfers aren't on the list of huntable big game species, but check the regs to make sure

The past 10 years have seen a surge in the golfer population around central OK, so I wouldn't be surprised if they got reclassified as a "nuisance animal" not subject to hunting regs/limits. :D

You Can Apply As Soon As You Establish Residency

You can apply for your OK CHL as soon as you establish residency. It's in Title 21, Pp 1290.26. The last sentence in that paragraph reads: "Any person who is twenty-one (21) years of age or older having a valid firearm license from another state may apply for a concealed handgun license in this state immediately upon establishing a residence in this state." That means as soon as you move in and get a drivers license or state ID, you can apply. If you're in the military, other rules apply that won't necessitate you getting an OK drivers license.(Title 21, Pp 1290.9)

Look at your rights and freedoms as what would be required to survive and be free as if there were no government. Governments come and go, but your rights live on. If you wish to survive government, you must protect with jealous resolve all the powers that come with your rights - especially with the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Without the power of those arms, you will perish with that government - or at its hand. B.E. Wood

Good state to live and shoot in.Lots of public hunting land and some good shooting clubs. We were members of Red Castle Gun Club when we lived near Tulsa.Norman Ok.,is kinda at the western edge of the hills and the eastern edge of the flat.Oklahoma is OK....:)

Oklahoma's a great place.

My brother lives in Norman. I do all my hunting (dove, deer, quail, turkey, hog) in Oklahoma now because it has gotten so expensive to hunt in Texas. Best weather in the world. Worst weather in the world. Friendly folks. Plus they recognize my CHL (concealed handgun license) there.

I have posted negative stuff on this board about Oklahoma before but I have to be honest this is a very gun friendly state. Almost everyone I work with owns and shoots guns. Hunting here in the eastern half is a little more boring as there isn't any of the spot and stalk that you find out west. Still a lot of fun, don't get me wrong, I still love it but it isn't as exciting as seeing that big deer way off and going after it. Feeders, game cameras and any other sort of lure etc. are legal here, so hunting is very different and takes some time to adjust to.
