Mil Pulled Bullet Experience.??

I am looking for a cheaper way to load .223 for strictly short range target practice, i.e. tactical entry training and transitions.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum has had any experience using military pulled bullets.? I have always used the bulk Hornady 55 grn or Montana Gold. The web site (link below if I entered it right) lists 1,000 pulled M855 62 grain bullets for forty dollars ($40). Any feed back would be appreciated.

I have used those 62 gr pulled bullets for plinking and practice in my Colt AR with a 1/7 barrel. I get half way decent accuracy with them, grouping about 11/2 to 13/4 '' at 100 yds. I can easily half these groups by using match ammo but they work well enough for me as is. They're cheap enough, buy some.

I'm one of those cast bullet shooters for 95% of my shooting, but for my semi rifles, I like in-expensive (comparatively speaking) so that's all I use (pulled military bullets) in my Garand and even use the .223 pulled for my 223AI bolt gun.

I've bought from www.gibrass,com and www.wideners.com and what I've gotten seemed to be decent quality.

The second thing you should know is that military pulled bullets are just as good as brand new ones. I may have a bias though because I sell them. However, I also shoot them. Ive bought many different types of bullets from RMR, and I think his prices and service are OK for the most part, BUT... The majority of the pulled bullets I have bought from him DO NOT group so well at distance.

.22 55 gr air pulls - ~4MOA thru bolt rifle that shoots to 1 MOA no problem, 6 MOA thru 2 MOA AR
.30 147 gr FMJ collet pulls- ~6MOA thru 2MOA FAL, 5 MOA thru 1 MOA M1A
.30 147 gr FMJ air pulls- ~5 MOA thru 2MOA FAL, 4 MOA thru 1 MOA M1A

I am VERY happy with RMRs plated pistol bullets, but I probably wont buy any more Mil. pulls, they just cost too much for the accuracy they provide.

I have bought pulls from other sources and have gotten the same result or worse.

If you keep your shooting to under 20 yards they work OK, but farther out they really dont group so well.

Those groups are horrible and not at all what I have personally experienced as well as hundreds of my other customers. There should be no practical difference between the pulled ones and new ones. I have shot 1.5" 20 shot groups with my 62 grain ss109s. Even the 175 grain Match Kings with pretty significant pull marks shoot well for me and I have customers reporting identical accuracy at 1000 yards with them when compared to brand new ones.

May I ask which load you were using and which loads you are comparing them to?

I've used the M193 & the M80 while they are not in the same ball park with a V-M they will still group 1.5" @ 100yds. I doubt you could see a difference with a auto under 50yds.
