Military discounts

They definitely weren't contractors. The posters only went to military and the pictures all came back from military email addresses.

Contractors live on military bases with APO addresses. I have been both. If they were wearing khaki pants...they were contractors (99.99%). They certainly were not non-tier 1 specops soldiers dressed like that (if they were...they probably wouldn't be posing for pics).

No personal weapons allowed at all. Accessories depend on the chain of command. Violating this is waaayyy worse than speeding ticket level.

edit: I notice now you said "email"..they could have been emailed from a soldier...or almost all contractors are former military, most very recent;y gotten out or still in the Reserve component. As a contractor I had a military ID, contractor ID, military email. All current, all active, and I was not unique.

Those guys are wearing Nomex. It's not particularly high speed, one way or the other. We had them, and we were not contractors, or SF, or CAG etc.

And actually, since the guy wearing the helmet has no way of mounting NOD's to it, and no PEQ-2 / PAQ-4 on either weapon, I would guess they are absolutely not contractors, or uber commandos. I bet they are regular joeys.

I have seen Glocks officially issued.

The only personal weapons I have seen were from Terps, or were bought there, and stayed there. I am aware of no one that brought a weapon from home.

I have seen lots of accessories bought.

Your mileage may vary.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for all your replies. I started the thread and now see that if soldiers buy equipment, it really isn't for field use, with a couple of exceptions. My reason for asking was I often see gun dealers offering military discounts. I thought, what for? If it's for hunting, personal protection, or collecting, then great. It's a benefit of being in the active military. Law enforcement often gets discounts too, but I'd hope their departments are paying for it.

I have never seen Glocks offically issued.

The are the official sidearm of the Iraqi Police. If you work with, near, or around them, it's not difficult to pick one up. After you have it, it's all about if there's anyone to care that it's being carried.

Bottom line: Very likely not a personal purchase.

Last tour (AF, 2005) my guys carried 1911s, Glock 21s, and various Soviet-issue long guns. It's all about how close you are to the flagpole, who's sitting under the flagpole, and the capacity in which you work.

However, personally owned weapons, while it may be possible for some military to bring them over, are a real hassle to get home and may be more trouble than they're worth if the wrong person finds out.

Ok Ok they were contractors lol. I give. :)

People do military discounts because we have no other way to show our appreciation for the people who protect our freedom at their own expense. Its embarrassing how easy we live our lives in America, and the only reason we still do is because of the claws of the tiger, in those cool digital camo uniforms.
