Milled Hungarian AK63D

J & G Sales is now offering a milled Hungarian under-folder for $579.00.

This is a CAI rifle. Not sure if it is built by CAI or if they outsourced it. Pretty sure the receiver is American made. These are kit guns. Fine with me as long as they are put together correctly. The price is certainly appealing.

Couple of questions...

Did the original Hungarian AK63D ever come with a milled receiver?

Anyone know anything about these rifles?

I have a SGL-21, an Arsenal SAM7K, an M-10, and a Waffen Werks 74, but do not own an under-folder. So...trying to find out some info on this one.

Fine with me as long as they are put together correctly.

With CAI that can be a big if.

As to the underfolders, they look damn sexy but suck if you're actually going to shoot it.

I have a Polish Underfolder and love it... it's comfortable to shoot both off hand and at a bench... accurate as I need it to be... don't see why you would say they suck bsw?...
I've only had 1 turd AK (WASR) from CAI... the rest are keepers for sure... seeing AKs back in the price range as before the madness sure it nice... J&G has a sweet selection of milled AKs...

Poor cheek weld and they all go wobbly if you use them enough. Don't know why the Sov copied them from the MP38/40.

OTOH, the Brits copied the bad mag design from the MP38/40 when they made the STEN...

I have an older Hungarian SA-85 underfolder and it's stock is still holding up quite nicely after years of use. As for the cheek weld issue, I wrapped several layers of paracord around the strut and it makes it a lot more comfortable to shoot.

That is a really good looking rifle. I see the receiver is stamped.

Does anyone know if there were milled receivers made on any of the original Hungarian AK63D models? If there were not, then I am not exactly sure how well the stamped receiver kits would function with a milled receiver. Of course there might possibly not be any issue al all.

It just kind of takes the "originalness" factor out of these rifles if no milled receivers were used.

Anyone else have any interest in this rifle?

I am new to this forum.
I saw it last week on j&g's website. Thought about it for a couple of days and bit the bullet
I have one coming in as they shipped the day after I paid for it.
I have seen the polish 1960 that century offered a few years ago. It was outsourced to some other company and I have always regretted not getting that one.
I was originally looking for the feg ak63 kits when I chanced upon the rifle.
I think it's a better deal $$wise than buying kits, getting barrel and a receiver and having someone put it all together.
Now I am sure there are some handy dandy dudes that could use flats and their ak building skills and get it done cheaper.
However, I think that for about $600 you are getting a milled underfolder that has a year warranty and in all probability manufactured by someone else. These are never going to have any collectible value but same applies to the FEG kits made into under folders.
For a beater rifle/ shooter, I think it's a fantastic value as long as it functions fine. I will post pictures and update when it gets here.

Yes...Please let us know. I still have an interest in this rifle. It just seems a little oddball with the milled receiver.

I know what you mean about the regret of not buying. Quite some time ago there were VZ2008 rifles offered for $399.00. I did not buy one and had regretted it. I was told that those rifles had also been outsourced by CAI.

Last week PSA had a close out on their VZ2008 for $399.00 with 5 magazines, sling, bayo and mag pouch. Needless to say I bought one and it is on the way.

This milled Hungarian could be a really nice rifle and a very good shooter for a minimal price. Would be really curious to know just exactly who does the build and as to where the receiver came from.

It's an AKM clone -- don't think any of them were milled, though I suppose one should never say never with AK related stuff, given the sheer number out there.

My guess is CAI got a deal on a pile of milled receivers and decided to marry them up with Hungarian parts kits. Will it work? With CAI, excellent question.

I do not believe in buying what amounts to "international bag of parts guns". Went with AKM made in China. The only part I replaced was tiny person butt stock. It now has telescoping Tapco one. The only competition at LGS was Arsenal Nevada AK47 with Bulgarian military '10' receiver, but it cost >2x more than Chinese one. The only downside to Chinese is polished and blued steel finish oxidizes more readily than now favored cheap dull finish. If the gun functions as it should the $579 mentioned in original post is fair price for what is offered.

I picked up one of these and finally put some rounds through it. It is in fact a mix bad of parts (not a single number matches) but i believe they used all quality parts, all Hungarian AK63D, minus the obvious. I called century and they would not tell me much about the barrel or receiver (unsettling) other than the barrel was 4140 and non chrome. As for the build quality i am certainly no expert, but I can tell that the sight was not canted and there was no mag wobble (no more than my AR or the M4's I have carried). I zeroed the rifle fairly quickly and at 25 yards the wholes all touched, which im assuming would translate to moa or less at 100. Again this was just a fwiw post on my limited experience with the rifle.
