At Concord the British were intending on disarming the colonists and the armed citizenry fought back, this being one of the sparks of our American Revolution.

Would you agree that perhaps there could be a similar situation arising this summer? Imagine a million armed Americans attempting to walk into the District of Columbia. We all know that Washington is practically the same as London, gun laws wise. Do you think the government will try to stop them? What if they do, could this act result in shooting? You are there with your legally carried handgun and maybe a M-1 Garand over your shoulder. Your fellow citizen is there with his "horrible" AK-47. The Washington DC police are standing there, behind barricades, and you are walking towards the rally. What is about to happen next?

The minute men at Concord did not have a Constitution and Bill of Rights like we do and yet they fought back. Would we be any less morally obligated to fight? Anyone that has been in the military swore an oath to defend our country against enemies foreign AND domestic. I did. You could certainly consider the likes of Kennedy, Schumer, Feinstein, et al, as domestic enemies, right?

What do you think?

It was a bad idea when it was thoroughly hashed out on TFL last year.

It's still a bad idea.

It will still be a bad idea when it's brought up again in a few months.

Like it was said on TFL, the idea is OK, but the application....

I don't see how this could help the pro 2nd Amendment cause in any way, shape or form.

We all know how the media is going to spin this, and I would rather not see that just yet.

In short, I think this "Million Gun March" is monumentally stupid.

I think this idea was Rick Stanley trying to make a name for himself with little regard to how it would hurt gun rights. A horde people marching armed into D.C. while making revolutionary speeches -- at best -- would push millions of fence sitters right into Sarah Brady's arms.

I did like the idea of a "Million Empty Holsters March," though that someone suggested on TFL.

"Lay down your arms, you damn Rebels!" - unknown British Officer to American militia.

Modernly, they'll say, "Put your guns down and raise your hands above your heads, you damn terrorists!"

Someone from the government as a plant, will fire off a round, the police will return fire thinking they are fired upon, bloodbath, nobody wins, media has a fieldday... Hashed, rehashed, and hashbrowned to death on TFL, was bad idea then, bad idea now..

Great in theory, horrible in application..

I had the "send an empty brass to your congressman" idea, went ok, until they declared doing so was a "death threat".. Again, great concept, horrible in application after the spin doctors get their hands on it..

The complaints are, I guess, fair enough.

After all, given the current drift of the tide, we'll be losing our rights quickly enough without possibly offending the major media, etc.

So, we'll follow the laws, create no ripples in the pond, and slowly go 'round and 'round after the lever is pushed...

Still, shouldn't there be some way to avoid having to fire on the JBT's coming to your home?

And, if there is something beyond the usual get out the vote/educate your friends etc, just what is it?

Whizzing in your pants

These kind of ideas are like peeing in your pants. It gives you a warm feeling, but no one really notices.

Want to do something that really works? Put together a charity shoot at the local range to raise money for breast cancer research. Get the local women's groups involved. Get the media involved. Hold pre-event training that's fun.

Get florists to loan lots of shubbery and arrangements. Put out ballons. Have it catered with good food (NOT Barbecue!). Make the range ATTRACTIVE. Have the mayor out. Invite state-level politicians out.

Have a special area where the kids can try shooting, with one-on-one instructors.

This battle of gun rights will be won or lost by whether we can win over the lady behind us in the checkout line. If we don't, we lose.

She doesn't have to become an avid shooter, but she needs to have the feeling that "those shooters are okay with me." That's all we need, and we don't get that by "in your face" assaults.

In my opinion, at least.

I like the idea of a Million Gun March in Washington, DC.

Call up some domestic gun maker in the US, like Kimber, or Springfield Armory, etc and order the frame of a 1911. Just the frame, no barrel, no slide, no trigger, no hammer, frame with the serial number only.

Do the BATF 4473 form, pick up the frame/gun, put a couple of ziplock ties through the trigger guard, and lash it to your belt or wrist, or whatever is handy.

Have 200,000 of the Million Marchers do this. The 200,000 that can afford to be in jail until their preliminary court hearing.

Frohickey: We can't even do this in CA :banghead:

Didn't Malcolm X pull something like this?

Actually someone would win- the government and the anti gun lobby. No matter how it started, unless we were prepared for actual war (and I doubt we are) we would lose and be blamed and RKBA would be set back for a long time if not permanently.

As a romantic idea however..............

Rather fight than win?

>>Have 200,000 of the Million Marchers do this. The 200,000 that can afford to be in jail until their preliminary court hearing.<<

Yeah, and watch what happens the next time these folks try to clear a background check when buying a gun.

OH. You have a firearms charge on your record. No can do.

It would frighten the public, make them even more sure that "those nuts" should not have guns, and create tension where we should be building bridges.

But, as I've always said, many of the gunnies would rather fight than win.

I don't think anyone from the gumint would work as a plant. I think an anti-gunner would do that just to make us look bad. Look at the MMMer who wound up shooting someone w/in 1 year of marching.

Better Idea

Why don't arrange a peaceful resistance movement, like in Canada?
Imagine having people going out to burn Form III's, people publicly sawing off their shotguns, people converting AR-15 to full-auto - openly, and explicitly without criminal intent. If we can get 30-40 thousand to do that, they won't be able to do anything, and their laws will lose power and respect.

If we keep on "winning" in the current manner, we'll be lucky to have squirt guns by '06, and then only if brightly colored and not resembling some other "real" weapon.

So, maybe I'm not so smart, but can anyone show me a reasonable way out of this mess?

I don't like the confrontation idea, and I surely wouldn't carry anything unloaded, but, if I've a choice, I'd rather the change be peaceful.

But I strongly suspect that's no longer possible, and it just might be time to suck it up.

I have read about this million gun march several times.
I have to agree that it is a BAD idea from every angle. Even if DC didn't have the restrictive guns laws, and people could cary legally, it would be a disaster for so many armed people with strong emotions to be in the same place at the same time.

As for our RKBA, if this march is done, we can kiss them goodby.

With ideas like this coming up, I think we are our own worst enemys.

Excellent idea and you are right, it does work! If your "evil" organization is donating money to all these good charities that the sheeple love and support, then many will start to lose the stigma and realize that the media and movies was lying to them about you.

"evil" car clubs hold toys-for-tots events and such all the time and it works.

How about instead of going to Washington DC we go to a state capital, like for example Sacramento, with about 100,000 people and peacefully march unarmed to show our support for the 2nd amendment. All the anti gun action seems to be happening at the state level now and I don't think the NRA has been doing a very good job of fighting it. With five million people in the NRA we should be able to round up 100,000 activists. At the state level I think we could make a real impression.

Do consider & ask the question, "what will A March do that that same effort applied to the voting electorate won't?"

Politicos care not a whit about anyone marching about, but they most surely do if they think they'll lose their cush job.

You are probably right Labgrade. Its just so frustrating watching things get worse and worse for us. Everything we do seems so ineffectual. :(

andy,

Don't lose hope. We're making some in-roads here 'n there & I feel the tide's turning (somewhat). Not as fast as we'd like or care to see it, but, it seems to be nonetheless.

(takes deep breath & says to myself that the words I just uttered apply to myself as well .... ;) ) I do too get so discouraged at times.

BTW, had a chat with someone you'd know quite well just last night & he said that the whole reason for this site is to allow a venting of our frustrations, to help buck us all up & to help with our souls (kinda) .... make the best of it, do what you can, don't get too down & that's why we're here .....

Use this resource.

We are ineffectual! None of us want to control anybody else's anything (mostly) & from that comes a natural "Slug Effect" (tm). ;)

First rule of politicos is that they don't want to do anything - at all. Any stance whatsoever makes them a target. For those that want them to do "something else," & for those who didn't want them to do anything at all.

If "stuff" was already in our favor, we'd be in toot sweet, but we ain't, & have to get them to move their current off-center - a tough road, especially since they'd have to take a stance that would (gasp!) allow us "to have a gun!"

Activism regards education of them (first) & then the general populace will go a long way. Threat of them losing their jobs by not backing our rights, is another huge hurdle, but well worth it, IMNSHO.

Rambling some about now, but. getting actively involved at the bare-bones political level will have 10X more possitive effect than anything marching.

I was on the ground floor of the TRT & later got to sit across the table from Our Guv. Basic politico instinct says that if they think they'll lose their job = they'll reconsider. A March ain't jack in their scheme of anything. Makes you feel good that you "did something," & no doubt makes you feel good & powerful, but the politicos don't care about that.

Guess I'll hafta do another dump ..... (as if I just dint ;) )

I'd have to agree that it seems like a bad idea at this point.

However, if the circumstances were different, it may be appropriate. For example, let's say the feds just passed a confiscation law that hadn't taken effect quite yet. I think it would be justifiable at that point. Certainly beats waiting for the JBT's to come visit.

We seem to be making 'some' inroads right now with the expansion of CWP laws and such. The timing's all wrong.
