On another active thread on this board, a few minutes ago I watched an older video about the Smith and Wesson boycott by NRA members in the year 2000 due to actions taken by the (former) ownership to work on restricting 2A freedoms.

I just clicked on my email and find this email from Springfield Armory. This is refreshing to read and I hope people who get it click on the links:
American Patriots,

The anti-gun and anti-2A forces are assembling in towns and cities across our great nation. They are emboldened by the fever pitch of the recent tragedy in Florida and feel the wind is at their back as they move, as always, to infringe further upon the rights given to us by our Founding Forefathers.

We, at Springfield Armory, are heartbroken and disturbed by the acts of violence in Florida, committed by a mentally unstable individual that so many knew, and reported, to be a danger to our citizens.

It is only natural in times like these to want to do SOMETHING. It is also in times like this that we must not act solely for the sake of acting. Clear-headed discussions, free of emotion and knee-jerk reactions must be the order of the day. We must do something to protect our children so that these horrible acts are stopped for good. We also must do what is necessary to ensure the survival of our Second Amendment, the Amendment that protects all others. The Amendment our Founders trusted to our Republic with the words “Shall Not be Infringed”. These rights were fought for and earned with the blood of American Patriots at places like Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, and Trenton.

Now is the time to act. With the specter of further 2A infringements looming tall over the nation, it is imperative that you contact your Legislators and demand that they uphold their oath to protect the Constitution of our beloved United States of America. Freedom is not free. It must be fought for against the forces who would happily give up our most sacred rights and freedoms.

Please call both your Senator and Congressman using the links below:

Well Gary Pesters and Debbie Stab-me-in-the-back-now, have new emails to read. What little good it will do. Perhaps they will have a miraculous change of heart, one can hope anyway.

Springfield colluded with anti 2A politicians in Illinois in an attempt to hurt their competitors.
Now a mass email that is nothing more than an exploitation of the tragedy in Florida and bragging about their commitment to supporting the 2A.
A truly disgusting company.

Springfield Amory trying to make up for the carve out they got when they threw Illinois under the bus. SA would need some new management before I consider owning one again.

Politics at every level is a very messy game. Sometimes you must sleep with the Devil for the greater good.

Pleas elaborate.

When you are dealing with many THOUSANDS of local, State and Federal laws out there we don't get all the info that the NRA has. Realistically the NRA is not going to stab us in the back. It is no different then Trump. What he WANTS to accomplish is not what always gets done. Sometimes you must compromise A to get to B.

True
But he’s also leading the majority party in both houses. That said he has to keep his base happy plus sway all of the undecided independents

Springfield conspired with anti gun politicians to compromise the second amendment (A) to get favorable treatment from government and to crush competition (B).
No good ever comes when you;
sleep with the Devil

Sounds to me like they are trying to do a better job with 2A issues. Everyone makes mistakes. What we can use at times like these is unity, not division.

I wonder if they happened to mention anything in that e-mail about the Bill that they allowed to pass the Illinois Senate through their back-stabbing actions is coming up AGAIN for a vote in the Illinois House next week.

From the NRA-ILA:
"On Wednesday, February 28th, Illinois state House Speaker Michael Madigan intends to hear and possibly bring to a vote, the egregious dealer licensing bill, Senate Bill 1657 as well as soon-to-be-introduced legislation to ban commonly owned semi-automatic rifles. It is important that you contact your state Representative and Senator and urge them to OPPOSE SB 1657 and any other gun control legislation that may be brought up. ...

Senate Bill 1657 would create onerous mandatory regulations, fees potentially in the thousands of dollars and excessive amounts of red tape that would almost assuredly force the closure of many firearm dealers, and prevent prospective owners from opening new ones. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) already licenses and closely monitors all federally licensed firearm dealers (FFLs) and strictly enforces any violation of federal law. "

Yes, we all make mistakes. Springfield Armory management made a very big one based on their own self-interest. We have to pay for our mistakes, especially the selfish ones. Springfield Armory's public relations department beating their own drum to exploit the tragic murders in a Florida school does not strike me as building unity.

Full disclosure: I am a small time 01FFL in Illinois (just received my first three-year license renewal from the BATFE) and will very likely be put out of business due to significant compliance expenses if the state's gun dealer licensing bill passes. The Springfield Armory e-mail: "SPREAD THE WORD | 2nd Amendment Threatened" remains unopened in my Inbox - I do not know nor care what it even says. At the same time, Springfield Saints and XD-Ms and Range Officers remain un-ordered for my business. I may like several of their products, but since they have clearly demonstrated they feel they could get along without me, I now feel the same about them. No "Bravos" from me for Springfield Armory at this time.

How is all the planning, scheming, and colluding done by SA just a mistake?

And where did Springfield ever acknowledge it even on that understated level? As far as I know, their response was “sorry not sorry.”

Forget’m. The oldest name in American firearms made in Croatia can go pound sand. Or, if they want back in like Ruger and S&W, get new leaders and new actions to demonstrate change. An email campaign is the cheapest of cheap talk.

No Rugers or S&Ws in your possession, then, given Bill Ruger's testimony and S&W's deal with HUD?

The NRA lifted the boycott on Smith and Wesson after the company was sold to American investors for a fraction of what it was before the boycott.

The message was to the new owners, 'Stick to the Second Amendment and we will stick with you. Stick it to the Second Amendment and we will stick it to you'.

That said I wish that Smith and Wesson would move out of Massachusetts like Weatherby moved out of California into Wyoming.

Save it for Hertz. I don't think Springfield Armory should be punished for trying to get back on the right track.

And I'm not just saying that because their XD-E is sweet.

It is downright ______ (I do not know the best word here - silly, juvenile, ludicrous, thoughtless ?) to think that 'Springfield Armory should be punished for trying to get back on the right track' . Any disappointment or bitterness is clearly the result of their PREVIOUS actions that amounted to selling out smaller FFL dealers in Illinois.

I for one, am NOT "punishing" Springfield Armory. I am just choosing not to spend my money with them because of their self-serving choices and actions last year.
