I have a M/N 91/30 and I was wondering if there is any way of affixing a scope to these and other milsurps without drilling and tapping them. I know people often sporterize them but I'd like to do something reversible. Any thoughts?

The ones i have seen require removal of the rearsight and then a mount is placed in it's place. You can mount it without permanent alteration to the rifle. The problem with the setup is that the rifle will be setup in the scout configuration because the rear sight is too far forward.

So why do the reproduction scope mounts for 100 dollar surplus rifles cost 600 dollars a set?

Darrell makes a great scout mount for the 91/30.
The ezboard network appears to have made some changes, you now have to register just to see the forum. Doesn't make much sense, new people will never find it if they can't even see it. Unless I'm just missing something...

Anyway, I have one of Darrell's mounts for my K31. Outstanding quality. Machined from a solid block of aluminum, very tight fit, no movement at all, no permanent alterations to the rifle required.
