Looks like the milsurp market is drawing me in yet again. I'm looking for opinions on the Yugo M48/48A (is the only difference the milled vs stamped trigger guard?). How well do these shoot in terms of accuracy? How much recoil should one expect? Is the recoil on par with the Mosin Nagan M38? Is around $160 a good price for an unissued condition M48/M48A? Here's what I'm looking at.

They are excellent rifles, particularly in unissued condition.

I get 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards with mine. Relative to a Mosin M38, I think recoil is less.

Buy it. To make this rifle in the US today someone would have to charge hundreds of dollars. They are a steal at $160.

I picked one up a couple months ago and have been very impressed

They are very accurate and solid guns.

Recoil is pretty harsh, though, and that metal buttplate doesn't help!

$160 for unissued with accessories is a bargain.

I've got the Yugo bug too. What condition do you recommend? I was thinking unissued, but it will mostly ride in a case in my truck box. Approx prices: $169 Unissued / $119 V Good matching / $109 V Good non-matching. Plus $25 FFL.

Even though I'm getting this gun for shooting not putting up, I'm leaning towards the unissued.

PineTree - mine is "Good: Matching" as opposed to unissued.

bore is clean, stock has some small blemishes and nicks; a few minor scratches on receiver

perfect for a truck gun (except that I, personally, am leaning towards a pistol carbine these days)

I got the non-matching select from CDNN a couple of months ago for $110. Mirror bright, excellent bore, nearly 100% bluing. Just a couple of very small dings in the stock along with the normal cosmo soaking. Both the cosmo and the dings disappeared when I refinished the stock. If you're looking for a truck gun, a little dinged wood attached to mechanically excellent hardware is probably a good way to go.
