I just got my new S&W 1911 4.25" SC. Now I have to figure out which holster to get for IWB carry.

I THINK, I've narrowed it down to either the MS Versa Max II or Summer Special II. I read somewhere that the Summer II sits lower in the waistband, which is something I like.

Any advice?

The VM2 has a reinforced mouth to stay open for one hand reholstering. I'm not sure the summer does, check the website. the vm2 is incredibly comfortable and the reinforced mouth is a key feature.

I've had both, and prefer the Summer Special II.

However, you could be very happy with the VM2.

summer special is what i've always used

btw, i've got two of them, one from milt sparks and a knock-off from wilson combat, and NEITHER have ever required using both hands to reholster. the mouth never closes when you draw the gun out. there is no need to reinforce it

I think on this question individual preference will vary widely. I have a couple of Versa Max holsters for different guns (including one for a S&W 1911 Sc) and a SS for yet another gun.

I haven't warmed up to my Versa Max holsters because I find them pretty cumbersome to put on. I suppose if I wore them more often they would become broken in and hence become a better and easier fit.

I've come to the sad conclusion that I don't really like IWB carry.

I also had to work to get the VM2 on. Maybe better use of the snaps would have helped.

The Summer Special II was much easier for me.

Frankly, once I got used to having the shirt out and untucked, I much prefer belt holsters. They sure feel better.

The Milt Sparks 55BN is an excellent choice and rides high for me.

I had and sold the VM and have a SS 2 for my 1911 carry. Just my preference.

I have both the VMII and SSII. I greatly prefer the VMII, once "broken in" it is an extremely comfortable holster. I think the width of the loops helps spread the weight of the pistol some.

20 to 22 week wait on VM-2H now

I just ordered a VM-2H today (March 8 2007) for a 5" Nighthawk 1911, and the estimated lead time for my holster was 20 to 22 weeks. A bit further out than I would have hoped but I ordered anyhow.

Stog;

I've got a Summer Special, it's got a reinforced mouth & stays open. But it's not my fav Milt Sparks holster.

I've been carrying in an Exec's Companion from Milt for around 10 years now. That's the IWB for me. No issues with it at all. No need to look for something better, different, or more comfortable. I'm carrying an H&K USPc in it.
