Mini 14 is going to get a good scope. She deserves it.

Are there any "brass kisses" on the scope or scope mount?
The kisses on the op rod are righteous, that is what dinged the case mouth and should also leave a crease on the side of the rear of the case, but if the case has the mouth ding, and is also getting crunched in the action something is bouncing the case back into the action.
The ejector face can be tuned to eject up or down, and throw the case forward or back but one usually just replaces that style of ejector instead of tuning it. Different loads can also change ejection patterns.

I would check the ejector and extractor to make sure both are clean and move freely. If the issue just started after having no issues for a bunch of rounds something may have gotten jambed into either or the springs might have broken. Sometimes things just happen.

Looks like you found the gun, or the handload for that gun. Time to scope it.

I didn't clean my mini for like 20 years. When I finally took it apart the extractor was packed with carbon dirt mud and ran fine.

I checked the scope and rail. No brass markings. I'll check the extractor and ejector then. I do get dings in the casings like an AR does to brass. I did changed the scope around. I put my Burris
Droptine Rifle Scope - 4.5-14x42mm on it.

One time i shot my finger with a 22. It cut a gully across it. It grew back in. Why did it happen? I was cutting a milk jug in half shooting at it. I was down to a little slither of plastic. I held the barrel to stabilize my pistol. Well my index finger was in front of barrel. The funny thing is. No pain when i did it. I felt a thump. My son goes your finger is bleeding.

that’s CRAZY!

The things we do to ourselves, I don’t know how I make it pass 16. We use to sling rifles on our back and rode bikes into the woods. Nobody even blinked an eye.

Although it involves installing a new forward pic rail (Ultimak), I wanted to avoid the ejection port altogether and got me a Vortex 2-7x scout scope (or EER scope; whatever!). Annnnd…. Love it. I initially looked for a lower-priced, lower-mag version (like a Leupold VX-freedom 1.5-4x scout); both Vortex and Leupold have great warranties/ service. Settled on the Vortex one; and though it’s a little longer/bigger physically, it fit fine. I use it at its lowest (2x); but it’s not the worst thing in theworld knowing you can crank it up, and keep pushing forwards…!

Narrowed the stove piping down to one pro-mag. The 2 ruger mags i ran 30 rounds through each one. And the other pro-mag i ran 30 rounds through. No issues. The other pro-mag did it twice. Both times with 3 rounds left in the mag. Checked my trigger pull weight when i got home. It seams to have settled at 5 lbs.

1-4 is perfect for .223 but would it also be good for .308?
How far do you intend to shoot? Is it for hunting or target shooting or both? I like a 1-6 or even 1-8 on my rifles since they are so prevalent nowadays rather than a red dot, but my LPVOs with the best glass and reticle are still Nikon Black 1-4s.

Matching higher magnification for longer range shooting can definitely help, but the first time I hit 1000 yards with a 6.5 CR AR, I was using a 1-6 scope. It wasn't a fluke because the other shooters there were able to make 1st shot hits on the 1000 yard steel with it as well. It has superb glass. Better glass, good reticle, and knowing accurate dial-ups for the ammo you are using are more important to me than higher magnification a lot of times.

I shoot steel out to 300 yards. I did turn down the scope yesterday. I could not see the small targets on the 300 yard line. They have a chicken and some cans hanging to shoot at. I zeroed in the drop tine yesterday.

Was just putting the finishing touches (minus the flash hider i havent ordered yet) on my Mini and looked up at the rough old Weaver C4 sitting on my shelf. I noticed it had ruger rings on it. Hmmm i remember my grandpa having a scope on it at one point. Grabbed it and the rings were in the perfect spots with the perfect eye relief! Might have to try it out. Though i prefer the irons, which i just spent over a hundred bucks on and installed.

That’s a nice looking stick. I preach those Barrel Stabilizers for the Mini to people with or wanting one. I honestly don’t know of another aftermarket part which can so drastically improve a rifles accuracy, while at the same time making it look SO MUCH better! One of the BEST purchases out there, IMHO.

For the old minis with pencil barrels the mo-rod did help improved group size and stringing. I found chopping the barrel 2 inches and adding a flash hider/brake worked even better. I don't think either option will make much difference for these new heavy barreled minis.

From what ive found there are 4 different mini barrel stabilizers. IMHO the accuracy systems is the best because of the rigid mount into the gas block. The Mo-Rod is a close second since it bolts to the gas block.

Im excited to see what kind of groups i can get with the shorter barrel, flash hider, and stabilizer. Should be much better.

One thing i noticed on my 187 ranch rifle was that the last 5 inches or so of barrel isnt even .562"... Right after the gas block it has a very small reduction in diameter down to about .53x. The new front sight is butted up against that little ledge in my pic.
