Some grouping test with the dot powders and Accurate #9 .223

Did some groups with the dot powders and Accurate #9 at 50 yards. 9 grains of powder except the Blue dot. 10 grains for it. Yellow dot is the #9 pink is the red dot.
No super fussy case prep. Just trimmed to size. Bullets were berrys 55 grain FMJ. And some 55 grain i bought from RMR. Before the shortage. I was going for groups not bullseye hits. Guns sighted to 15 grains of 2400 and 24 grains of Varget. I did not use the hold over dots either in the scope. Also did a random loads 10 rounds at 100 yards. I had fun. Some of the groups surprised me. Rifle was my Savage axis with wood stock. And a Mcarbo trigger reduction kit. Scope UTG 4-16X50 1" Hunter Scope.

I have an article written by John Haviland in Handloader magazine about reduced loads like you are doing here. I like you test and groups. And I'm a fan of reduced loads for small game and practice. No need for full power ammo all the time. With handloading you can have a 22 mag, 22 hornet and full bore loads.

Those are good groups for 55 FMJ. I wonder what you would get with a match bullet like a 52 HP.

Very helpful! I bought 4 lbs. of AA9 long ago (LGS wanted to clear inventory -- cheap!) and haven't really found a niche for it so far. I'll give this a try in .223!

I'm assuming these were reduced loads?

I've still got a few lbs of red dot and some cheap 55gr FMJ's.

Yes reduced loads using cast data. I don't know much about AR'S. But i think they have adjustable gas blocks. Maybe that way you could get it work? I recently zeroed in an AR for someone and tried my 15 grains of 2400 in it. It wouldn't cycle. And there a higher velocity and pressure load.

#9 works great in 223! At 9-10 gr. with 55 gr jacketed bullets, pressures are low enough to use magnum pistol primers which conserves my small rifle primers. Accuracy with several bolt rifles is easily under 1" at 100 yards. They are quiet, recoil is nil and I can shoot a lot more of them before the barrel heats up. I also use cast data for reduced loads in 243, 308, 30-06, 338Win mag and others. I have plenty of large pistol magnum primers that work fine for these, too. Accuracy is excellent.

Me too Robert. I love shooting rifles with reduced loads. Easy on the shooter and the equipment.
