At the recent gun show in pasadena, I managed to pick up some Pro-Mag steel and polymer 30 rounders for my mini 14. I haven't used them yet but the fit fine the polymer is a little to tight for my liking. Does anyone have any success said brand. Maybe some recommendations guys?

there seems to be a batch of original Ruger 20 round magazines on many
of the discount sellers inventory. I bought some from cheaperthandirt
for 27 dollars. These were new in the Ruger box and had Law Enforcement
Only stampings; which mean nothing now.
My luck with after-market mags has not been good.

Aftermarket mags for the Mini 14 tend to be of very poor quality.
Bite the bullet and get the original Ruger factory 20 round mags.
Initially, these were only available for law-enforcement, but you find them all the time on the internet if you take the time to look.

My Mini didn't like the 30rd steel Promags that I had but it did like their 20rd mags. I never tried the plastic ones but hopefully they'll work for you. For after market 30rd mags for Minis I recommend the PMI or Federal Ordnance. Also Brownells sells CJ Weapons 20 and 30rd mags for less than $20 and the 20s were totally reliable in my Mini.

The word over on perfectunion.com is that Cproducts is going to start producing Mini mags. I'm hoping for some stainless thirty-rounders.

I've got 2 of the Promag 20 rd plastic magazines and they work fine on my newer model mini-14. The plastic feed lips on the front (towards the muzzle) will cause a few hang ups at first - you just help the bolt close to finish chambering the round. After a mag or 2 of ammo, this goes away.

Mini-14's are notoriously picky about mags. I've never had luck with Promag, though the polymers have a better reputation. The only aftermarket mags that work 100% in Minis are the ones made by PMI. They're hard to find and a little pricier, but they're still out there and the reliability is worth the cost.

They don't make PMI anymore though. Those prices in the "Deltaforce" link are way too high. One of the better magazine manufacturers is currently planning on rolling out mini-14 magazines - C Products I think. The Promag polymers function perfect for me. The 20 rd'ers were $10 each at Natchez Shooter Supply.

I have have had good luck with the promag 10 round mags. Haven't tried any other aftermarket brands. Factory 20 round mags work as well..but they sell out fast.

They quit making PMI back during the ban. There's still a lot of them in the supply chain, though I bet it's drying up fast. I picked up a few early last summer for $25 a piece if I recall correctly. I'm going to try the Promag polymers soon, as I intend to sell them at the gun shows and I won't sell a product that I haven't personally tested and know to function. I hope they work well. Good mags are getting hard to find.

Ramline 30 rounders

I bought a half dozen nib from a pawn shop that had lost it's FFL and was closing out it's arms and ammo stuff for $10/ mag. I have put tons of surplus and cheap winchester ammo through it and they have never jammed. In fact my mini has never ever jammed. Of course I clean it after every time I shoot it.

iam thinking of picking up a mini, will the new mini 580 series accept hi cap mags.
