OK, I've heard that aftermarket Ruger mags are generally crap,, so I got some Ruger factory 20 rounders from cheaperthandirt.com. But I'd like even higher cap magazines, 30 or 40 rounds would be nice. Has anybody had a GOOD experience with aftermarket mini-14 magazines, and if so, recommend a brand?

The only aftermarket mags I will use are PMI mags. I have never had any problems with them. They made 30 and 40 round mags. PMI went out of business about the time of the assault weapon ban in '94 but you can still find their magazines for sale. Check the auction sites and gun shows.

John Masen are supposed to be good - I got two of thier 20s, and one didn't work, going back. Better than the 5 no-namers I got from J&G a few months ago, not ONE of them worked. I have two factory 20s, and am getting a third, but the price is HIGH.
Every once in a while I see Ruger factory 30 round mags, but the price tag is usually $100 each, or higher. Thanks, Bill :(

Personaly I dont care for the way 30-40's balance the gun. I think 20's are perfect. Good luck

+1 on that! You ever try to fire from the prone with a 30 rd mag? With a 40 you'd have to go to kneeling.
