I currently only have two mags for my mini, a 20rd and 30rd, both are Ruger factory mags. I have only heard bad things about aftermarket mags for the minis, but I am struggling to bring myself to spend another $50-$60 for just 1 30rd mag. Have any of you had good experiences with any other brands? Keep in mind that the reason bought a mini 14 is for the reliability and having reliable mags is just as important to me. I have never had any issues with my Ruger factory mags so I may end up sticking with them if there aren't any others out there with a great reputation.

I realize that I may be asking too much...

The only mags that I've ever seen that work reliably are the Ruger factory mags.

Just be glad that they now deign to sell them to you.

Actually, I have three or four after-market mags for my Mini14 and have only had one issue with one of them. It's not a feeding problem either, it's seating the mag. I have two factory mags that I bought for $35. I carried all but the bad mag on patrol.

The aftermarket mags I bought have been from different gun shows. I'm currently of the frame of mind to go factory mags though, since you really don't know what you'll get until you've already paid money down and you're finally getting to the range weeks later.

ive got a john masen? 10rnder that has been perfect thru some 1000rounds or so.

Thanks for the responses, great input. No doubt saved me a bundle.

At 24.99 each theres no reason not to use Ruger factory mags IMO
Concur. However, if you can't get them - the steel Promags aren't a bad choice nowadays. I own a dozen or more 20rd and 30rd steel ProMags for the Mini, all made within the last couple/three years. I have shot many many thousands of rounds through these magazines and they have never given me a single issue - at all.

I know that ProMag got a bad reputation during The Ban Years, but my experience with the current crop of ProMags for the Mini14 has been resoundingly positive. Just stay away from the polymer ProMags....

PMI was 'the' brand to get for a long time. I have a half dozen in the wrapper still (not looking to sell them).
