Anybody have any experience with Ruger's new Mini-14 in 6.8 SPC? As always with Ruger's Mini-14/30, I am concerned about the quality of aftermarket hi-capacity mags. I am wondering if you can use the same hi-cap .223 mags.
I'm currently in the Army and shoot the M16 ALOT. I guess I am tired of that platform and it doesn't interest me to own one. I have a mini-30 and it shoots groups of 2" at 100 yards. Alot of people bash the mini-14/30, but I like them.
I have my doubts about the mini 14's accuracy in any caliber. Having owned 2 they tend to pattern rather than group. I wouldn't expect much, but then again, you may get lucky.
My mini-30 grouped about 4 inches when I first bought it. After a couple boxes of ammo, it now groups 2 inches. I have too read that Ruger retooled and the new mini-14s are supposed to group better.
Sounds like a good thing! Let us know if you find/buy one. I'd love to know how well it works for game and paper.
I'm a big fan of the Mini's and like yourself, I find them to be accurate enough to take a long shot at game and drop it. Mine's a 30 and I load a .308 150g Nosler BT for it.
The mags are not the same as the Mini 30. Over at the Perfect Union bbs some have reported success in getting some Mini 30 mags to work after some adjustments. No reported luck that I can find in getting factory Mini-14 mags to work.
