A friend of mine who is a big fan of the Mini 14 and has shot one for years tells me that the extra, after-market shock buffer for the Mini is an unnecessary gimmick. He adds that the clang of the Mini in action reflects its ancestry in rifles such as the M-14 and does not need to be modified or fussed over. Are those who add buffers to the Mini gilding the lily or putting a moustache on the Madonna?

Is this what you're talking about?

It's pretty useless for just a standard Mini. It might save you from buying a new scope anytime soon, the mini is known for killing them. Other than that I don't think it does any good. I would say get a gas bushing over the recoil buffer. 10x the difference.
