local shop has a mini 14 for sale, i belive it's a 180 series, only asking 450 bucks, good deal? seems fairly tight. i know i'd rather have a new ranch rifle, but this one's price seems more in my ball park, thanks

Sounds alright these days. I like my 187-21*** Ranch Rifle. I paid 300 something for it quite a number of years ago. If it is in good shape, I think it's worth it.

I got mine (1975, 180 series) for $250, but that was 17 years ago. It may be a little high to be called a deal. If you can get them down to $400, I'd buy it.

If it's a Bicentennial gun, it'll add a slight premium, if in VG-Exc. Condition. The Bicentenial guns say on the receiver, "Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty". I've been looking for one of these to go with my Mark I Bicentennial.

not to rain on your parade, just a heads up. the 180 series is no longer supported by Ruger & most if not all parts are unique to that series. there are very few aftermarket parts & those that exist will bring a premium price. it is really a better collector piece than a shooter. if it is nice at that price buy it & find a collector that wants it & get into a newer series. you'll save yourself a lot of money & headaches if it ever breaks. albeit most never do.

$450 is about right. The 27th addition Blue Book of Gun Values lists a 90% condition at $445. The 180s had roller bolts and were the best of the breed IMO. Parts are available from Jack First.
Ruger has enhanced the accuracy of the latest versions of the Mini.

I got mine at a gun show for 400.. Had fun refinising the stock and got a few new parts spring etc. Shoot well. The down side as mentioned, not many after market stocks etc. for the series 180.

I personally don't care about the supposed dearth of after-market parts (though the Brownell's catalog still shows a goodly amount of them); like 280shooter said," it is what it is "-and I like what it is.
