thinking about putting a red dot scope on the mini. Any recommendations for scope and mount. I can't really afford a high dollar setup. thanks fellas.

I picked up a BSA red dot at Wal-Mart for around $30. It seems to work OK on my mini 30. The gun is not terribly accurate to start with so this combo is basically a 50-yard gun. The same combo on my SKS and my Saiga is much better. I can shoot hanging clay birds regularly at 100 yards with the Saiga.

bushnell trophy/tasco pro point 2/3 $80
ultradot for $135
aimpoint for $330
anything less is probably throwing money away.

Ultradots are pretty good. Have one on my Ruger MK22 pistol.

Aimpoints are excellent. Have one on my Colt Sporter Lightweight.

BSA red dot

I have a BSA red dot on my 10/22. This setup is great for plinking out to 50 or so yards, but the scope has a terrific parallax problem. If you hold the rifle completely still and move your head around on the stock, the dot will appear to move within the scope, possibly even all the way to the extreme edge of the tube, even though the gun didn't move. However, it's not hard to remember to mount the gun correctly.
