South PA, and a bit West of center!
Mike came over from seeing his family, before headin home (safe drive Mike) ... and we got out to range for a coupla hours. Didn't take too much - not enough time. Lucked out with weather tho.

Did take L1A1 which he was keen to try (comment and question on that later) ....... pic of same below, immediately after release..

Put some 9mm thru his old camp carbine.

Tried some top load Hornady 300 grn in .454 thru SRH ..... NICE!!! .. pics of this also - both immediately pre shot release.

He tried the P9HK at 100 yds and homed in on a piece of broken clay. Some rounds too thru my Makarov and Bersa .. both were great, tho .. he found my black grips on Makarov not quite comfortable.

He also put a few rounds thru my old MkVI Webley .455 .... something a bit different! It has a slight prob re single action - if hammer pulled back too far ... it skips the notch. Not sure I can easily remedy that.

Once light dropped off ... put some stiffish loads thru SP-101 with CT grips (damn ..... I love them!!) ..... it is pretty much spot on! Yeah! :)

Oh and .... get ready to laugh ..... I'll save Mike the trouble of posting this!!!! .... took T/C Contender with the 12" .44 mag barrel to sight that in .. guess what .... dipsh*t here only fitted Leupold back to front! geez ... how did i do that! ''El Stoopido'' :D Did put a few rounds thru even so .. to compare some homeloads and factory (Magtec and Rem).

(Mike - guess what? I had a Torx wrench key in that box of tools all the damn time .... just didn't look hard enough! Could have redone scope anyways! Duh!)

So.. here are a few pics.

Re L1A1 .... a little while back I got some new sights from D.S.Arms, outa IL ..... I fitted the ''tactical'' :)rolleyes: ) ..... para rear sight with windage adjustment ..... (has two peep apertures to choose from) .... and replaced front sight with the crosshair deal.

I set up the latter to approximate the height of old blade ... but -- when we shot it (love the sight picture) .. oh my, was it ever going low! Screwed foresight down to limit but still shooting too low. So - seems new rear sight too damned low in itself and ...... being in dovetail, danged if i can think of an easy way to cure this. Could go back to old rearsight but that rather negates the expense!!

I could also machine something of foresight base but .... the set screw is there and I expect about 40 thou is all I can remove ... probably not enough.

I forget who posted about these sights a while back ... but wonder if they had any probs and ...... wonder if any other ideas out there?? Maybe I should post this as a separate item ... perhaps i will later.

Hey - sorry Club!!! :p

This was a bit of a ''one-on-one'' shoot ..... as against a totally planned big deal. However .... watch this space cos I hope to get a shoot together in springtime ... so ...... hope we might see you get over here then. :)

Thanks for sharing a good time and pics.

That range sure looks familar. I went back up to PA and can't recall the name of the place...end of summer and it was hot and humid!! I can make it 17 hrs... straight thru...btdt. If you have a small BBQ place about 15 min from range., windy gravel roads onto two lane blacktop, gravel parking lot...yep I've been there. :)

Sorry Mike!! Didn't want you to leave in ''damaged'' condition! Know what they say .... ''no pain - no gain'' :p. Hope OK tho, seriously.

Soda ........ hey Jamie ...... looks like I have a shoot to attend on my calendar or Jan 17 all being well .. so don't know what else will fit into the month .... plus wondering what the weather will do!

Steve ... seems familiar Hmmm ... how long ago .... cos benches are more recent additions.

Those are nice benches - gives me some ideas for around here.

Mike, were you trying to lob a few rounds into the next county? Doesn't holding the revolver that high make the scope unnecessary? ;) :) :D

Ok, ok, stop punching! I know what he meant.

Chris,
It was near the end of an extended summer session this year, so end of July. On- line classes so took my laptop. < insert white knight soundtrack here> Went to pick- up a guy's daughter near UoP at Johnstown. Is there a range near Hoosersville? That is the last town name I read because I just wandered around with her instructions[ "no back up...that road, no I meant right not left..."] and ran into a BBQ joint first then the range down the way. Bad deal really for the daughter, got her back home and safe down near Dallas. Chalked up a few miles on that road trip.

Not all the benches were complete with tops, weather had hampered but plywood worked for temp, new tin roof ,and support beams. I stayed lost until I hit the freeways...little towns and "shortcuts"...hey I just did the driving. Once I hit I 68 headed east...southbound and down...didn't stay in MD long...kinda surprised I was in it in the first place. :) I'm not accustomed to weird shaped states not having pretty much straight lines as borders...gimmee a break will ya? :p

Steve ..... sounds like you were approx in right area ...... but there are other ranges around of course. I think these benches were complete before the time you mention.

Anyways ..... here is a pic of whole firing point so ... that should tell you one way or the other.

Serves you right, shootin' that cannon! Call me a wimp (WIMP!), but those things hurt!

Only if you try to hold it down. Let it ride, man, let it ride!

I'm a skinny dude but I can shoot that stuff all day long and not get hurt. My "personal best" is 100 rounds of hot .308 from a bolt action pistol (Wichita) one morning. Fired most of it from Creedmore. Had a blast, and not a bit sore.

If anybody does a shoot in the NoVa area in January, let me know. Barring a baby arriving at an inconvenient time (dont' they always?), I'm interested in burning some powder.
