After being dissatisfied with the stock grips (stocks?) on my S&W547, I purchased a Hogue Monogrip on the advice that it was thinner and more comfortable. But I find that I can barely get any finger purchase (about 60% of my index pad) on the trigger using either of these. On a whim, I took the grips off and tried dry-firing with NO grips installed, and....whaddya know! Perfect!
Well, not quite. See, I can't seem to get strong purchase for the heavy trigger without heeling the revolver a lot. Basically, I grip it as high as possible and bend my wrist old-school like when shooting a single action or flintlock. It works ok, even though its not the 111 degree combat grip of autoloader orthodoxy. Some "filler" behind the trigger guard a-la Tyler T-grip would be ok, but really not necessary.
Basically, where can I find some grips that are just shy of being no grip at all? I just want something to cover up the mainspring and prevent the profile of the frame from poking my hand. Ajax grips looked like they had some promising items in their Secret Service grips, but I don't want to spend $70 on some fancy rare wood from extinct rainforest trees than have been brought back to life by reconstructing their DNA, or walrus-penis ivory that's been raised on beer and caviar. I just want a couple pieces of plastic or wood. I thought about shaving down the stock grips, but the metal medallion inserts and threaded insert look like they might be a problem.
Anyone got any ideas?
