I have been loading for a Henry 45Colt with a 255 gr hard cast and 8.5 gr Unique. I have a new Winchester 73 in 45Colt and am concerned that 8.5 gr may be too much for that action. I am pretty sure I am close to the SAAMI max of 14000 psi but I can't find it on the Alliant load data. Does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge or do they do similar loads? I am off to the range and will take my Henry and chrono that load.
Thanks in advance

I checked every manual I have and there isn't a one of them that has pressure ratings for that bullet weight or most of the others. All the same manuals list 8.6 of Unique as max except for one and I through that load out.
Miroku's are strong built guns but the '73 action was inherently week. I would have the same reservation about shooting those in it also.
I hope things work out for you.

Thanks Tiger. I chrono'd my loads today using my Henry w/ 20" barrel. The high was 1145fps and the mean would be about 1125 to 1130 by my estimate. It seems I have seen a formula for determining PSI using your load and fps

You could probably punch those numbers into QuickLoad and come up with a fairly close determination now that you have chrono readings.
