It makes me :barf: after I read that thread about why cops shoot so much in L&P... to think that Hollywood, the very source of complaints, is also the very source of misinformation and disinformation.

It just sickens me that the public thinks your body "rocks back" when you are shot, and how a 9mm shot in the shoulder will make you spin 720 degrees..

I mean I enjoy watching movies, but what is pathetic is that most of the non-gun owning public BELIEVES this to be the truth..

They also believe all the gun owners are nothing but borderline psycho's like Rigg's in Lethal Weapon... :cuss: :fire:

Ok, rant off...

Skunk: They killed my partner!

Chief: Dammit, YOU ARE OFF THE CASE!

Skunk: But they killed my partner!! He was three days from retirement!!!

[Skunky slams badge and dept issue S&W snubbie down on table in disgust]

Tamara, don't forget, all bullets when fired in WWII, looks like they are shooting tracers.

Did you know, just like in Windtalkers, all grenades end up like napalms?

"big explosions and big guns = big bucks"

With that in mind I can understand why all that miss-information is in hollywierd movies and stuff... basically because "sensationalism sells!"

Hollywood has no 'duty to reality' only a duty to making money, to producing 'art' that the majority of the public will spend 8$ to see.

What I can't understand is all the erronious information being spread around by firearm 'enthusiasts.'

e.g. I was at a NRA class recently where the instructor declared that "it's illegal for a private citizen to own or use +P+ ammo," which is absolutly false -- while +P+ ammo is often marked "LEO only" it is only by company policy, not by federal or state statute or code.

And this was just one of many erronious facts I heard that day.

Wait wait wait!!!!

Are you guys saying that these movies aren't realistic and I can't get a rangefinding, break-down sniper weapon with cool electronic reticle with neato numbers and lights?? You mean those 40 round clips that fit into the mag well of a 1911 don't really exist??? Don't even tell me that those AP handgun rounds from Lethal Weapon 3 don't exist! I've been looking for those at the gun shows!

Next you guys are gonna tell me that ugly, good hearted guys don't really end up with hot chicks if we only show them that the rich good looking guys are really shallow!!!

Jeesh!

Lethal Weapon...A Hymn to Gun Control

Aw, common gang:

Drug dealers on every street corner with "converted semi automatics" firing "armor piercing cop killers" full auto, which where obtained from a few of the "crates and crates" of confiscated converted firearms?

All this just in time for Clinton era repression?

Meanwhile, back in reality, there where how many full auto weapons confiscated in LA? Like 3?

Sheesh.

You'll hear far more misinformation in the gun shoppe than you see hear in a Hollywierd movie.

Especially if you're at Don's place up there in Hoosierland (although it can get pretty deep at American Armory down here in K-town, too, which is why I don't go there; the steady drone of BS gives me a headache...)

Don's Guns is one scary place.

One thing I have to say about Hollyweird and their "wrongness" is that some of it is necessary. Just like makeup has to be excessive on stage actors for some in the crowd to even see it some things on film have to be over-broad just to carry off a minimum impression. A real grenade blast on film, especially when shrunk to boob-toob size, just doesn't look like much. Anyone with any experience knows it IS but for those with none it doesn't even begin to convey the reality.

Same as with car crashes and jumps. What looks amazing up close and personal looks almost lame on the tube. A good example is the jump scene in the original "Gone in 60 Seconds". That was a 130 ft jump. Impressive as all hell to those who were there at the time but it looks rather mediocre on film, especially today.

Was that the original Gone in 60 Seconds?

40 round mags for 1911s DO exist - I've seen bigger ones. In fact, I've seen one that was about 4-5 feet long. That was one scary mag, lemme tell ya...

Anyone ever seen The Junkman? The Gone in 60 Seconds guy made it, and it is REALLY bad, but has bunches of kewl wrecks and a bad guy (named Magnum, if I recall correctly) blazing away with a .45 with an extended mag...

Yep, the original "Gone", produced, directed, written by and starring(as well as distributed and paid for by) Toby Halicki. "Junkman" is next on my "corny old movies that need watched" list. Didn't he also star as the Junkman? He died making the second "Gone" in 1989 when a water tower collapsed prematurely. His widow was one of the Exec Producers for the Bruckheimer remake.

Speaking of misinformation...

I can't get a rangefinding, break-down sniper weapon with cool electronic reticle with neato numbers and lights??

Well, yes you can, if you have the bucks.

You mean those 40 round clips that fit into the mag well of a 1911 don't really exist???

That's correct, they don't exist. However, 40 round MAGAZINES do exist.

BTW, folks, seems to me you can do one of two things about Hollywood:

  1. Stop supporting them. (Yes, I mean stop buying/renting movies.)
  2. Stop bitching about them.
    [/list=1]

One or the other - make up your mind.

Quartus,

BTW, folks, seems to me you can do one of two things about Hollywood:

News Flash: Just because I keep bitching about the weather doesn't mean I'm going to stop going outside. ;)

Mrs Skunk: You can't go! It's too dangerous!

Skunk: My partner died taking a bullet for me. I HAVE to get the @#$@#. It's personal.

Bad guy ends up being internal affairs guy.

Everybody knows there is no such thing as an honest cop, just the ones that have been convicted and the ones that haven't been caught yet. The good ones break the law to catch the bad ones making them just as bad.

The weather isn't your enemy, Tamara, and you CAN'T do anything about it.

All of you bitching-about-Hollywood gun owners have the POWER, and therefore the RESPONSIBILITY, to do something about it.

So if you WON'T, you aren't any more of a 2A supporter than the "ban the assault rifle!" hunter types. You want what you want when you want it, and you aren't going to be inconvenienced the least little bit, no, not even to slow down the river of money flowing from Hollywood to the coffers of the enemies of America.

Skunk: "My partner told them what they wanted to know and they STILL killed him and set fire to his house."

Prosecutor: "Isn't it true you acted like a vigilante?"

Skunk: "I acted like a man, who wanted to see justice! Regardless if it's bringing them to justice, or bring justice to them, justice HAD to be done!"

Prosecutor: "But isn't justice the responsibility of the police which you no longer are??"

Skunk: "Justice is everyman's responsibility! I only did what every decent man would have done for his fall'n partner..."

(Outburst from the crowd) "You are a disgrace to the outfit! You were a disgrace when you were in uniform, you are still a disgrace now!"

Skunk: "Disgrace? Maybe. But someone who can hold his head up high and look his partner's widow in the eye, and know that she can finally sleep at night, now that her husband's killer has been brought to justice? If that is disgrace in your eyes, so be it. I don't know how you look yourself in the mirror at night Mr. Prosecutor, but I know, before I go to bed at night, I thank the good Lord for having worked with such a brave man as partner; a Bible by the bedside, and a clean conscience."

Prosecutor: You're a real gun nut, aren't you Skunk?

Skunk: No, I don't think so.

Prosecutor: Then explain the clear holsters, the clear USP and carbon fiber Glock!

Skunk (angrily): They're tactical? Don't you get it? In order to be effective, you need to be tactical. Tactical! What did you want me to carry? A regular black Beretta 92 with black plastic grips? Only non-tactical cops carry that, that's why they can't hit anything.
