‘Shoot Me!’
RG Griffing Calls Out Brady Bunch
Ruby Jean Bergman, SAL Staff
San Antonio’s “gadfly†political watchdog RG Griffing is offering the anti-gun
group "Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence" the answer to their (and
perhaps others’) prayers: “Shoot me!â€
With their typical spin, the Brady bunch has generated a panic among many
unfamiliar with firearms and ballistics. The misinformation campaign involves a
recently released product of Fabrique Nationale Herstal (FN), a Belgian firearms manufacturer—the “Five seveN® †semi-automatic pistol—and the ammunition the gun fires.
The Bradys have saturated the media with claims the Five seveN ammunition
available to civilians is armor piercing and, at very least, endorse legislation by Senators Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Charles Schumer and Jon Corzine (D-NJ) to ban the gun and ammunition.
The Brady Campaign is named for Sarah Brady, wife of Jim Brady. Jim Brady
was Assistant to the President and White House Press Secretary during the
Reagan administration until March 1981 when Jim was severely injured by
gunfire from John Hinckley Jr during an assassination attempt on Reagan.
Since then, Sarah Brady has marshaled a campaign to see every gun
confiscated from American citizens. Though a seemingly understandable
position—there have been questions as to her underlying motives.
Apparently embarrassed by National Rifle Association having dispelled the
Brady Campaign’s latest propaganda regarding the Five seveN and associated
5.7x28mm cartridge, the Bradys upped the ante. They unbosomed an itch to
shoot a high-ranking NRA official.
In a statement issued Friday, the NRA quotes Mike Barnes, President of the
Brady Campaign organization, at a press conference on March 3 as
“challenging NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre to ‘put on a bullet
proof vest, and we`ll fire the weapon at him, and see what happens.’"
In their statement, the NRA points out “anyone who is even remotely familiar
with firearms safety knows that you never point a gun—loaded or unloaded—at someone for anything other than defensive purposes. That is the Golden Rule of gun safety.â€
Beyond the Golden Rule, it is unlikely that anyone who is sane would allow an
angry, pistol-wielding pacifist a clear shot. Those being said, enter RG Griffing.
Griffing, feisty founder and publisher of SanAntonioLightning.com,
San Antonio’s online conservative news source, says he’s “had it†with the
Brady bunch.
Having consulted professionals and reviewed ballistic ratings of the
ammunition in question on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives web site, Griffing has challenged Barnes to a duel.
“I’m offering them the opportunity of a lifetime,†Griffing said, stoically. “They
can shoot me. If the bullet doesn’t penetrate the vest—they owe me twenty
grand ($20,000). If it does (penetrate), they’ve proved their point at my expense.â€
Griffing claims never to have owned a firearm of any type. “I believe in the 2nd Amendment. I believe that gun freedoms have made and kept America great. But I’ll never own a gun because I’d probably accidentally shoot myself. I’m no good with tools. When my wife sees me pull out the hammer and nails, she dials 911.â€
Griffing also admitted that he has never been a member of the NRA. “I hope
they’d condemn what I intend to do,†he said.
The colorful journalist may have never owned a gun, but he is no stranger to
being shot. As a television reporter for the local NBC affiliate, KMOL (now WOAI, again) during the early 1980s, Griffing volunteered to be shot at point-blank range by, then, Sheriff’s Deputy George Soto (see video link below).
“It hurt like hell but it proved an important point. This will, too."
When questioned as to his motivation to be shot again: “No. It’s not a publicity stunt. It’s a reality stunt. This Brady woman and her coven are intentionally, internationally misrepresenting the truths and bringing confusion to an already misunderstood phenomenon; the right of law abiding Americans to defend what they hold most sacred—their families.â€
Griffing, husband and father, will soon announce the timeline and conditions
surrounding his challenge. One condition Griffing did not withold was “That
Barnes son of a bitch will have to be the one to pull the trigger, himself.â€
