Another favorite from a past life is "FIGMO". Whenever someone was getting close to DEROS (Date of Estimated Return from Over Seas) they got a bad case of FIGMO......Um, "Forget" it, got my orders"

EIEIO - Enhanced Integrated Ethernet Input Output

BTSOOM - Beats the ____ Out Of Me

Two of my favorites.

Disconcerting acronym...

When my Dad first worked for the State Department of Public Instruction in his state @ the time, he was upset and disconcerted when he began at his new office, and right away started getting those brown inter-office envelopes marked Jack Smith, SOB. He wondered how he could have made so many enemies in so short a time, until someone pointed out to him that his new office was in the State Office Building. :D

In my prev life as an RN, I once got terribly cold looks from a mom on my peds unit...after a few hours of a very chilly reception from a previously friendly family, I asked what the issue was.

She accused me of calling her child a brat.. confused, I started to backpedal but asked where she heard this.

"Its written right here on his chart!! B R A T...see right there"

The slow smile on my face caused this really constipated look on her's...

"BRAT...is his diet...banana's, rice, applesauce and toast"

SOP for a GI admit with nausea and vomiting for a toddler..

We laughed for a bit on that one!

Nurses used to used the term FLP and FLK .... well in the other order... often it was a case of a FLK with a couple of FLP's... see if anyone can figure it out.

Not funny, but a common mistake, RPG does NOT stand for rocket-propelled grenade. We just transliterated the Cyrillic letters from the Russian acronym, which is "ruchnoy protivotankoviy granatomyot" which means "hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher."

Rocket-propelled grenade is a backwards acronym invented to explain what RPG meant and, of course, it's not correct. The original RPG, the RPG-2, is fired by a powder charge that is all burned in the barrel, no rocket involved. The RPG-7 added a rocket booster that ignites after launch.
