its a 140 gr TCFP "For Fast Action Velocities"

here's a link to the bullet on MBC's website

http://www.missouribullet.com/details.php?prodId=161&category=5&secondary=16&keywords=

I bought a box of 500

I am going to shoot it out of my 686 6 inch and planning on using 2400 powder and thinking about using a charge weight range from 12.0 grains up to 15.0 grains.

I don't see much load data for 140 grain lead bullets that aren't wadcutters

anyone have any info or experiences they'd like to share????

I plan on buying a crap-ton of these when I run down my current supplies. (A crap-ton is defined as the number I can afford at the time).

Not familiar with that specific bullet, but the MBC hardcast 18BHN bullets I have bought from them did not play well with 2400 or 300-MP when loaded to magnum velocities...I got some nasty leading.

At modest loading, they were great.

I load these bullets over 15.0gr of 2400 which gives 1340fps from my 4" 686+. I also load MBC's 158gr LSWC Action! bullets over 14.5gr of 2400 which gives 1295fps from the same gun. I've not had any unusual leading from either load.

I hope they do well - and if they do I'll buy a crap ton too

I bought some 158 SWC's (18 BHN) action also - same time as the Zinger's
I just finished shooting some of them with 2400 last weekend. They shot from 1073 fps up to almost 1280 fps and I did get some leading.

It didn't seem like much leading, but when I went out yesterday and shot some more, they were spraying all over the place and the leading got worse.

It didn't take too long with a Chore Boy to clean the barrel tonight.
But it seems I'm going to have to find out which load/velocity caused the leading.

How fast did you shoot them and get leading? and how moderate of a load or velocity were they great??

Cosmic Coder and Barr
With Laser-Casts - I had to push them pretty fast not to get leading and get some groupings

hmmh , a puzzle!

thanks for the replies

Did not measure velocity, but leading started at ~13 grains of 2400, 158gr SWC, 18BHN. 12.5 grains worked well

Edit: if you go much lower, you can have other problems (incomplete burn, squibs, etc).

Does anyone have any Unique they can test the Zingers with? I would be interested to hear about experiences with that combination before I buy them, but it won't stop me from placing an order.

I've loaded the MBC 140gr LTC Zingers over Unique [when I could still get it!]. Here are the results for my S&W 4" 686+:
Bullet: MBC 140gr LTC Zinger [#358140M]
Case: S&B trimmed to 1.278"
Powder: 7.7gr Alliant Unique
Primer: Winchester WSPM
COL: 1.582"
Crimp: Firm roll
Performance: 5 shot string
MV: 1248fps
ES: 19fps
SD: 8.2fps

No leading or any other issues with that load, Cosmic? According to my load data that's about where I'd like to be loading these at. I intend to use them for cheap training .357 loads.

Havok7416:

No issues whatsoever ... other than I haven't been able to find Unique for over six months. If you are loading for training/practice, you can use regular primers instead of the magnum primers I used - I was comparing Unique to my H110/W296 and 2400 loads so I kept the magnum primers for comparison sake. Unique is my favorite handgun powder - I use it for .380 ACP and .45 ACP but since I can't find any I've switched to HP-38/W231 with good success.

I've heard HP-38 will work well in the .38 Special/.357. I have had some success finding Unique and have ordered or found 6 or 7 pounds in the last 6 months or so. Just keep looking and you will find some.
