My recently married daughter relocated to Missouri with one of my California registered Glocks. What does she need to do there to get legal? Thanks...

COUNTGLOCKULA - "Just have her go to the local police/sheriff's station. They have the paperwork to register it in her state."

Does a resident of Missouri have to register his or her handguns with the police????????

You don't need to register a firearm (rifle or pistol) in Missouri if you are moving here from another state. You do need a Permit To Acquire a handgun only if you are purchasing a handgun in the state and you are a resident. These are obtained from the sheriff's office in your county of residence and are good for a single handgun or 30 days whichever comes first.

All firearms purchases through an FFL are required to be done through NICS but private purchases of private property between state residents do not require NICS.

+ One on that.

In Missouri there is NO gun registration.
If you move into the state and already own a pistol, you need do NOTHING.

If you have a CCW license from ANY state, it's good in Missouri, and you are legally free to carry a concealed gun IN YOUR CAR with NO permits.

You're daughter is good to go and she needs to do nothing.

The only thing she should do is go get her MO CCW- it's accepted all over the place.

The only thing you need a permit for in relation to owning a handgun is for when you buy one, and we're working on having that ended. Tell her to sign up over at mocarry- there's a few of us here that are also over there, and it's a great way to keep up on MO RKBA events.

if i'm an out-of-stater and i want to purchase a handgun at a local shop in Missouri, do I go through the same permit process to acquire? my wife is from st. charles and we visit her folks quite often. would be nice to hit up the huge bass pro shop and see what they have on the shelf.

You can't really but a handgun and take it with you if you're from out of state (there is a caveat but I've never seen it applied). The only thing that you can really do is go ahead and pay for it and get a local FFL holder from your own area to accept it shipped to him and then you go through your state's regular processes.

Harold's correct. You cannot buy a handgun outside of your home state (unless you have a FFL). Best you could do is have it shipped to your local dealer. Although the St. Charles gun shop prices aren't bad, they aren't so good I would buy there and then ship it.

As for the Bass Pro here in town, it isn't all that great. Their handgun selection has improved, but it still isn't awesome and their prices are no better than fair.
