I am planning a trip there in the near future. The HandgunLaw.US site states that New Mexico recognizes Missouri's permit, but Missouri is not listed on New Mexico's state site (http://www.dps.nm.org/index.php/nm-c...ty-agreements/) as a recognized state. Their state says they are constantly reevaluating the states that they recognize and that permits issued at the local level are not being recognized (Missouri permit applications are approved by the county and issued by the state). Am I reading this correctly? I thought I had everything planned out!

Lost the bookmarks....anyone have those sights that show which state recognize what states?

What is up with NM? Anyone know of reasons why they drop states that they formerly recognized?

Reinterpretation of their 'substantially similar' language.

Between this and that "can only conceal ONE," WTH is up with the Land of (Dis-?)Enchantment anyway? Is there some kind of gun-rights org equivalent to VCDL that can work up strategy and take the fight to the idjits in the Legislature?

The website page referred to, lists states that have reciprocity agreements with New Mexico.

There are two ways those permits can allow someone to carry: recognition and reciprocity.

Reciprocity is a formal agreement between states to honor each others permits. Beyond that, a state can also recognize other state's permits without a reciprocity agreement in place.

So, it's possible that New Mexico recognizes Missouri permits.

NM's website is dangerous. It still lists recognition of Utah and Florida on this page: http://www.dps.nm.org/index.php/concealed-carry-rules-amended-and-approved/

I'd call to make confirm Missouri permits are recognized.

Not that I'm aware of, it one of the things I miss since I moved out here from TN.

It is very frustrating. I am having great difficulty getting any information from New Mexico. But look for big changes. I look for NM to drop 6 to 9 more states. I am in the process of trying to get confirmation on who they are dropping but again all I get is look at our webpage.

NM did list states they would just honor and when they dropped one they stated so. But it doesn't look like they are going to make a public statement they are going to drop these other states but just drop them. Wish I had more info but I am as much in the dark as everyone else.

I used to be able to carry in New Mexico with both Florida and Utah. NM has dropped both those states. If I hadn't picked up Arizona last December (to carry in Nevada), I would have to lost concealed carry in NM.

Travelers can drive Hwy 40 through NM with few stops. If we notify Chambers of Commerce in NM of what we're doing, business people may start contacting state leaders.

In my mind, some states make decisions about carry laws in a way that's divorced from behavior of permit holders and unrelated to effects on public safety. :banghead:

Sounds like one of our NM members needs to contact Phil Van Cleave (I think he's a member here), one of the big guys at VCDL and ask about helping spin up a local counterpart.

Maybe DPS doesn't believe in CCW as much as they pretend to and this is headed toward a backdoor crackdown?

I was about to ask, why does NM even pretend to HAVE reciprocity if they're gonna do crap like this? Y'all need to do some housecleaning in your Legislature and DPS... seems to me that we're LOSING ground in CO and NM even as we gain elsewhere.

I also just ran across news about NM having dropped my home state of Florida from its list. I go out there very now and then, and enjoyed the legality of carry there. As was said, I guess I'll have to resort to OC next time. In New Mexico's list of "disqualifiers" regarding other states, the only two I could find that Florida has are that we allow veterans/active duty military and LE personnel who are under 21 to be licensed, and that we allow resident aliens to be licensed. The first one is actually new, and might have been the clincher. However, Florida's carry laws do seem to be particularly unpopular right about now... not sure that's a factor here, though.
