Missouri Supreme Court desicion handed down today!!!!

I have been stopped twice while carrying, and neither cop made a fuss about it or 'took custody of the weapon' during the stop.

I did have one cop (after he took my DL back to his car) come running up and loudly ask 'Are you carrying a weapon?'. At the time, I wasn't, so my reply was 'No. That would have been the first thing I told you if I was'.

I just knew that reading Mas Ayoob's advice would pay off, as I didn't get a ticket in any of the incidents. :D

Are they trying to scare people out of car carrying and make it an embarassing hassle if you happen to get pulled over with a self defense weapon in your glovebox?

I was thinking "Minnesota" myself as I read that.

Maybe the St. Louis sheriff should copy that sheriff in Minnesota who was signing the permits "sub recuso" (under protest).

I guess the right wing media is clamping down on dissent again as I have yet to read about "blood in the streets" in MN, even though every lefist knows its happening.....

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments and concerns. I plan to meet with leaders in both the house and senate early this week to discuss HB 1565 and the "fix". My advice will be to quickly move the bill. Be advised that the Hancock or unfunded mandate ruling the supreme court handed down has broad implications going far beyond CCW. This complicates the "fix".

Most out state law enforcement supports CCW and car carry but the internet quickly spreads the bad stuff that happens or is threatened. We've alway anticipated that there will be resistance and problems in areas that have liberal leaning mayors and police chief's, just save part of your ammunition budget to donate to some of the grassroot organazations that are willing to take on unfair arrests............ My time is going to be limited for the next few weeks due to the extra work so I may not find much time to respond to emails or the forums. Keep up the faith!!

Rep. Crawford,

Welcome to THR.

I also wanted to join the other Missouri High Road members in thanking you for all of your hard work.

Another Missourian here who just wants to say a bit thanks for what you have done for us, Rep. Crawford. I emailed your office the day the veto was over-ridden to say the same. I know my local rep worked hard as well. It is nice to live in a part of the country where good, honest men still hold office, and work hard for the rights of the people who elect them.

Best wishes to you and your staff!

I just called the Centre County Sheriff's office in PA (link on page three of this thread). The woman on the phone told me they were still accepting CCW permit applications from Missouri residents.

Hip-hip-hooray for Missourians, and best wishes to you all.

Also, deep thanks to Rep. Larry!

Congratulations Larry...The antigun Post Dispatch is reporting that you have the FIRST permit in the state. :D I wish we had some state reps of your caliber on this side of the river.

Jeff

Concealed weapon permit issued
By Terry Ganey
Post-Dispatch Jefferson City Bureau Chief
03/01/2004

JEFFERSON CITY -- Moniteau County Sheriff Kenny Jones issued what may be Missouri's first concealed weapons carrying permit today to state Rep. Larry Crawford, R-California, the lawmaker who sponsored the law providing for the issuance of the permits.

According to Crawford, the sheriff charged him $68 for the permit--$38 to cover a state Highway Patrol fingerprint check and $30 to cover the sheriff's processing costs. Crawford said he was not carrying a concealed weapon currently, but that he went through the process of getting a permit to learn if there were any problems with the law.

Crawford passed a weapons training course last fall and submitted fingerprints and other forms prior to last week's Supreme Court rulting that upheld the constitutionality of the law while questioning the law's funding mechanism. Crawford is a former circuit clerk and record of deeds in Moniteau County.

Congratulations, Missouri. As Kevin Jamison has wisely noted, if the sheriffs play games, you have other options available. Pennsylvania, Florida, or, for that matter, Minnesota. (For a Minnesota permit, you do have to come to Minnesota and apply in person, though.)

My guess is that the game playing and stalling will stop quickly, once the word on that gets out. And it will.

What? I thought this door was firmly locked know.

The ruling isn't technically effective until 3/12 and then not for any county having "funding problems."

Well hot damn, i cant afford a permit from FL or MO, this would rock if i could get a PA permit still.

Well this is good news... I sent my PA permit app in about a week before the ruling was handed down, so I have been eagerly awaiting news on whether or not my app was processed before the deadline. I live in Jackson County, which appears to have bought me plenty of time for Centre Co to process my app... and all for $20... :D life is gooood!!

(Hannibal Smith voice)" I love it when a plan comes together" :D

If you gentlemen get your Penn permit please post here to let us know. I am curious how long they take to process. I sent my app in via overnight mail last Friday. Sounds like the good sheriff of Centre county may have us covered in case our local sheriffs are stuck for a bit.

I sent my PA application Priority mail on Feb 18th. I got he permit back to sign and send back in yesterday. Thats 12 days. I will let you know when it gets back. I have heard of people talking 4 weeks to get it back to sign.

My wife and I sent our Centre County, PA applications in on Friday, 2-27, (regular mail) along with an email to Sheriff Nau stating we live in Jackson County. He emailed back saying that his county would issue as long as Missouri Counties won't. It looks like it'll be awhile before Jackson County gets it together.

Sounds like a good fellow there. If I get my permit from him I will be sure to send him a thank you. I wonder how many people work in his offices? Maybe we should chip in and buy them pizza!

:D

It'll still be worthwhile to get your MO permit, though. In order to get your New Hampshire permit -- good in a bunch of states; see this , you do have to have a permit from your state of residence.

(The New Hampshire permit is the same cost as the PA one, but it is, I believe, valid in more states, and getting one is a breeze, if you've already got your own state's permit.)
