I don't have any rifles but I don't plan to hunt with this, heck i might only shoot it once or twice, or if it's a good deal at $495 for everything buy 2 and keep one in the box for Antiques Roadshow, then use the other to shoot/hunt with. Good investment for Antiques Roadshow? Buy 1, 2? All I can get? I really have no idea, Mitchell Sales probably has literally 1 million of these things or something, at least a few hundred thousand.

Probably just going to buy one as collectors item and get a Savage for hunting boar and deer and other delicious animals. Acuu trigger looks nice on that.

www.mitchellsales.com so give me your opinion.
It seems like a good deal to me but I don't know what the going rate is.

Also as I have German ancestry (my branch left in 1800's) and a German last name I'm kinda wondering if friends who find out I have a world war 2 mauser rifle will look at me funny like i'm one of those people who is obsessed with the Nazi's or something. Then again the Yugoslavians did plan to use these to fight off the Nazi's again so at least I know these guns are "clean" conscience wise. What do you think?

Mitchell's is WAY WAY WAAAAY over priced for what you get. Unless maybe you've just won a multi-state Powerball Lottery or something, you can get an excellent condition M48 or M48A for less than half what Mitchell's will charge you for the same thing.

Check out CDNN Investments You'll need to download the catalogue.

And, pick up a recent issue of Shotgun News.

Agree - Mitchell's is way, way overpriced. I got a collector-grade M48 for $240 back when they first started bringing them in - less than half what Mitchell's wanted. CDNN is now selling Mitchell's Mausers at a very discounted price - that should tell you something! :D

I'll third what's already been said - their prices are just plain crazy.

I would, however, recommend the mauser as an excellent choice. Do a little research on the various types of mausers available, and then hit a gun show or two. You should be able to find a nice one for much less that Mitchell's prices. Also, 8mm surplus ammo is dirt cheap at the moment.

I will fourth the statements above. Their prices are nucking futs. However, if you would like to buy one of their guns, I also have some beach front property in Nevada I would like to sell you.

I just bought a Yugo 24/47 and it seems nice (I havent handled bolt-actions or any gun before for comparison, so I dont know what is considered "Nice".)

And stay away from his ammo. I refuse to buy "surplus" ammo in large quantities for the same price as Federal Match.

Thanks for the tips. Geez I can't believe you can get a like new mauser for about $100 or less. Amazing. Thought it seemed strange at Mitchell Sales.
