Is it a good deal 299.99 for one of these service grade mausers? Has anyone had experience with this company?

The one's for $299 are not German K98's. They're usually Yugo or Czech Mausers. The Germans are closer to $500.

I've not heard good things about Mitchell's, but no personal experience. My suggestion would be to get your K98 at a shop or show, where you can actually inspect it. Probably pay less, too.

Prices always seem high

Never bought from them. I would think you could get a Yugo for a lot less than $250.

I don't think that Mitchell's mausers done anything spectacular for the milsurp community, at least anyone who has their head screwed on straight. Refinishing the steel takes away the value. But I give them good credit on marketing.

Boy, does Mitchell's have a sub-par reputation around here. Use the "Search" function, you'll turn up a lot of interesting information...

Here's the deal with mitchells.

If you are looking for a pure shooter then you'd probably be better off picking up a surplus rifle from one of the importers.

If you are looking for a shooter that looks almost new then mitchells is probably your best bet.

The beef people have with mitchells is their advertising and not their rifles. Some feel that it is misleading in that it makes people think that they are getting a real german 98k. I really don't see wat the big huff is since they CLEARLY state on the website that these are M48 mausers built in serbia.

If people got hosed its because they didn't bother to read the fine print (that isn't so fine in thst case).

They currently sell K98's as well. The "problem" with Mitchell's is that they are refurbished and have little collector's/resale value. If you want a Mauser in excellent condition that you don't intend to sell or try to show off as a collector's piece then they may be what you're looking for. They're fine shooters but they're reconditioned.
