Just read a thread on what to do with left over powder in the hopper. Got me thinking...

Powder will vary from lot to lot. Now most of the time if we keep the powder hopper full we will get better results in what it drops....for instance a more consistent drop. So what do you do when your "lot" is half or 3/4 of the way through the hopper and your ready to run out(for example your out of that pound or keg and have more of the same type of powder but from different lot)?

Some throw the remaining out...others just dump more of the same powder on top of the "old" even from a different lot.

What I do is when I get down to about about a 1/8th in the powder hopper pull the powder and then dump that into the next pound/keg, give it a good shake and then refill the powder hopper full. I figure I'm not wasting the powder and the powder I dumped in certainly won't be enough variance to screw up to next lot.

So what do you do when it is time to replace powder....keep in mind this is the same powder but just a different lot? Dump on top, throw away or something else? Keep in mind same powder only...not changing powders.

Lots of commercial smokeless powder do no vary that much that there is a concern. Just add the last of one lot to the next lot. Noncannister lots of milsurp powder is another animal.
