I have a Ruger 22 MKII that I use for plinking practice etc. The pistol is very reliable and fun to shoot. Mine has probably 5K rounds through it without any problems until now. The pistol is not abused and is kept clean. As some of you know, the rear sight is set in a dove tail slot that enables you to move the rear sight to the left or right as needed to make it shoot straight. There is no set screw to keep it in place. It is friction fit item.
This weekend the rear sight became loose enough to move it with your fingers. I put it in my pocket to keep from loosing it. I thought about trying to peen it slightly to make it fit tighter. I also thought about drilling and tapping it for a set screw. I could use some type of adhesive, but I feel the oil and cleaner I use would probably eventually loosen it again. I could pay a gunsmith to work on it, but before I do, I want to know if there is a simpler inexpensive fix.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
Edit: In case you are wondering which MKII pistol I have... It is the base model with a 6" tapered barrel. This model does not have the rear sight that is adjustable for elevation etc.
