Intruder shot during break-in

Three or four masked men with guns broke into a Columbia Heights home Tuesday night but fled after the resident shot one of them, police reported.

Police later arrested two suspects, including one who was wounded.

The men barged into the home in the 600 block of 38th Avenue Northeast just before midnight, police said. It wasn't clear how many people were in the home at the time, but one resident fired a shot that wounded one of the intruders, police said. The other men helped the wounded man into a car.

As the men fled in the car, police arrived at the home and gave chase, which ended at 40th Avenue Northeast and Main Street. At least two of the suspects fled from the vehicle, but police arrested the wounded man still inside the vehicle. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where his condition was not available.

Officers with a search dog later apprehended one of the other men, and he was taken to the Anoka County Jail.

I noticed that with liberal papers here too when shall issue became law.

You'd expect them to at least try and twist the story around to say this wouldn't have happened if not for shall issue since the criminals wouldn't have been able to get guns? I mean why quit lying now?

Perhaps they don't want to forewarn other criminals? If the crime rate doesn't drop then they were not liars in all those other stories, right?

I'm a daily Minnesota Public Radio listener, but I have no illusions about their bias.

A sharp-eyed St. Paul resident spotted it in the St. Paul Pioneer Press (the wood-pulp version only) and mentioned it on the Minneapolis Star Tribune discussion board (http://online.startribune.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=18&start=200).

I called a public library reference desk. They have electronic access to full text of many newspapers. The librarian emailed me the story within a few minutes.

Every now and then, when I lived up there, I'd get a phone call asking me to subscribe to this paper. My reply was something along the lines of "No, the St. Paul paper is more than liberal enough for me - the Minneapolis Red Star is nothing more than the propaganda arm of the DFL."

They always were behind any additional gun bans, and weren't shy about providing a forum for the rabidly antigun Minneapolis police chief's nearly incoherent rants.

The paper wouldn't even print the real names of sports teams like the Indians, Braves or Redskins, prefering to avoid the use of Indian names by calling them the "Cleveland Team" or the "Atlanta Team."

Always made me wonder what else they were creatively misrepresenting . . .

If anyone wanted to write to the newspaper's ombudsman, Lou Gelfand ([email protected]) and politely ask why the Strib failed to cover this story, while covering every irresponsible use of a firearm in the 5-state area, that would be good.

If it had been a 9mm it would have been a through and through wound and the suspect would have got away.

If it had been a 380 it would not have broken the skin.

If it had been a 40 it would not have penetrated the winter clothing.

If it had been a 10mm he would have been DRT

IF it had been a (insert caliber here) rifle round it would have over penetrated and killed innocent bystanders.

If it had been a shotgun with 00 (slug, #4, whatever) it would have vaporized the BG and blown down half the wall as well as two stray pellets (slug fragments?) would have gone stray and killed the neighbor as he sat in his La-Z-Boy and wounded the shooters kid as he slept.

So, OBVIOUSLY it was a new wildcat cartridge that has not been discussed on THR/TFL before.

No. No. No.....don't you know that cops become derranged psychopathic killers immediately upon retirement or resignation. They are not deemed safe to have guns either. Only real cops (not civilians) are allowed to have guns.
