a truly futile endeavor, she visited olegs website and called it 'propoganda'. she considered it lies and half truths much like what the NRA preaches.

in one of her last communicades, she said she didnt want to discuss/debate/argue the gun issue anymore. oh yeah, shes a member of the ACLU. come to think of it, why am i friends with her in the first place????

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Besides, denial is not a river in Egypt.

Every person has a set of beliefs that they have accumulated, and from those set of beliefs, others are added to it much like you would accessorize a house. Add a second story, tack on a patio cover, etc. When a person's beliefs have accumulated enough cruft around it, its very difficult to get them to change it as they would need to work through the discrepancies between their existing beliefs and new ones presented to them.

To some, the easy way is to deny the new facts. They can choose to blissfully ignore new inputs. Or, they can try and resolve the discrepancy, but that would mean they would have to dismantle part of their existing beliefs to incorporate the new one.

If its not a matter of life-death, and not staring you in the face, its easier to dismiss and ignore it.

Do liberals ever get tired of being wrong?

Liberal rules of correctness:
1: We are always RIGHT, NEVER wrong.

2: If we shold inadvertanlty be found to be wrong about something, refer to rule 1.

El Tejon Don, if Minnesota has won, Illinois can win!

Illinois doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hades untill Daley and Chicago, along with Cook Co. sink into Lake Michigan.

'spiff,

a friend who lives in MD (yes, another hellhole of a state) said that she wouldnt want anyone but a LEO to step in with a firearm to prevent her from being attacked, since us lowly serfs have nowhere nears the training and precision with dem newfangled boomsticks.

You've described my beloved bride. :scrutiny:

Please, don't ask. But during one of our less-than-social discussions of gun rights, I asked her (we were standing in our bedroom), "if an intruder were coming up the stairs, right now, and with you knowing there's a loaded handgun up on that shelf, what would you do?"

"Oh, I'd dial 911."

I don't expect trouble, but I prepare for it. I pray it doesn't strike when I'm not around, because Mrs. James simply refuses to contemplate it.

Peace to you all.

No offence to Mrs james but .... guess I am as ever mystified by that response.

Surely, she and others who share her view ... can see that the time needed for a perp to reach the room and potentially fire shots could be actually less time than needed .. to even dial 911  Much less.

Further to that is response time .... I'll be gracious here and say 4 minutes .... by that time the bodies can be beginning to go cold and the perp is 10 blocks away.

I just cannot understand this ... the reason I guess why I am posting (frustration) .... it makes no sense at all. We all know surely that the cops .. (bless em ... mostly) ..... cannot ever do much more than ''mop up'' after the event ... so where for Chr*sakes is the percentage in calling 911.

Oh never mind ..................... :banghead: :banghead:

Hmm... if I ever get to that point in a relationship, I would think that I better be a police chief, since my wife would not be strong enough to protect my children when I'm away. If I'm a police chief, then maybe I can make sure that the mother of my children has adequate protection.

That, or its time to dump her and get another one that has more self-respect.

If you are against self-defense, then you don't have self-respect.

Frohickey and P95,

I hear you both. As to dumping her, that's not an option - at least for me :p.

But were the scenario described ever to present itself, she'd rush to whatever tools were available. She's a much stronger woman than she gives herself credit for.

If she only knew how enjoyable plain ol' sport shooting was - all golfers know what that total concentration is like - but, darn, I have to tread gently here.

Thanks for your comments, and your concerns.

Peace.

Check out this article.

I dunno about you guys, but knowing that they don't want me to have my gun on me in the city is only gonna make me go there with my gun more often, just because it makes them upset.
