MOA Adjustments for M1A M14 M21

Greetings,

I am now the proud owner of a Springfield Armory M1A M14 M21, fitted with a Hensoldt Wetzlar 10X42 sniper scope. I fired a similar version of the rifle back in my military days in the AF Security Police from 1972-76 and have wanted to return to this platform for many reasons, not the least of which is nostalgia.

I am hoping for some recommendations from other long range shooter's on MOA adjustments on targets from 300 to 700 meters. I would like to shoot this rifle in some local Colorado competitions and would expect to be using 150 grain SS cartridges.

For 147 grain ball, the standard come-ups in MOA from 100 yds to 1000 yds, in 100-yd. increments, are:

3,3,4,4,5,5,6,8,8.

I don't know how different that would be for whatever type of 150 grain ammo you have, but probably not much at all. It is a good starting point, anyway. It will at least get you on target, so you can confirm your exact actual come-ups at full distance. BTW, if your range is denominated in meters, you have to take into account that meters are 10% more than yards.

While having come ups to get you on target as a starting point is good, you relly need to spend some quality time with your rifle, and not rely on someone else's data. It is going to vary depending on what weight bullet you shoot, who makes it, scope height above bore, etc. Someone else's data is never a substitute for you own.

But, as said above, at least you have a starting point so you can verify withy your rifle and load, and change where necessary.

I appreciate your comments and I will look forward to making those fine adjustments on the fly as I practice with the M21. I love to shoot so finding the sweet spot settings will be fun for me, but I also know there are many "old snipers" out there like me and I'm smart enough to seek their guidance.
