With an insane desire to spend more money on guns and probably wind up talking to a divorce lawyer,
I am seized with the idea of building my own AR modular carbine. The Bushmasters look so cool and feel great but I dont want to drop $1200 on them. Any ideas for both saving money and making improvements? Any idea what to avoid?
Thanks. I love THR.

Model 1 Sales seems to have good prices. You can definitely save a few bucks if you stick with known items, not fads, and build the whole thing up by yourself.

Get a flattop upper receiver and the SureFire M-73 foreend. No gunsmithing required. Wish I had gone that route. Removing the front sight base has proved to be far more difficult than I remembered it had been. Spend the money and get good parts, it will be cheaper in the long run.

And have fun out there!:D

Another good thing is that you can build it modularly as your budget allows. For example, get the lower half built up then get the upper when you're able. Change out as your tastes change or you just want to try something different.

Generally, the neat thing about ARs is you can add a little at a time as your budget allows. The downtime as you save up money for the next item also allows you to research your purchase thoroughly and decide what piece of gear is best suited to your needs and wants.
