Anyone have any experience with these guys? I am considering a varmint upper from them and their prices seem good. They also seem to use good stuff in them (ER Shaw barrels etc).

Your suggestions are appreciated.

I have a M1S 20" A2 upper that I've had for a few years now, and have been very happy with it. 5.56 chamber with 1:9 barrel, National Match sights, and is damn accurate. Plus, it's made in Texas, right up the road from me. They're always at the local gun shows too.

It's been fed mostly wolf or other steel-cased ammo all its life, and has never given me any issues. I'd buy another one.

The only broken BOLT I have seen come out of an AR was from Model 1 Sales. Granted, it was not mine, but I saw it happen. I guess it could happen to any manufacturer, but kindof turned me off to them.

I have two of their uppers for my Bushy lower. I've never had any problem with either of them. They were a good buy.

The 20" wears a 3-9X scope and will group my handloads into sub MOA at 100, 200 and 300 yds.

The 16" wears an EOtech, Brownell's BUIS and groups minute-of-felon.

Thanks for the input guys! I know that their uppers don't have bolt/bolt carriers. I assume I could use the one from my current AR and just switch it back and forth as necessary?

You can add a BCG to your upper order for the additional cost, if desired. If you order just the upper, then of course, it's just the upper, and will also not come with a charging handle.

i had a very bad experience with Model 1 and will not recommend any thing they make i bought a 6.8spc upper brought it home put it on a lower pulled the charging Handel back let it go and the bolt was seized completely up no matter how hard i pulled i could not get it 2 come out of battery after about an hour i finally got it free....turns out the carrier gas key was seized on the gas tube got my calipers out and the gas key was .005 smaller than is was supposed 2 be so i bought a new gas key (and gas tube to be on the safe side) installed them and was very happy to sell it no more MODEL 1 sales for me

i never called the because the upper was supposed to be test fired with that bolt carrier ect. now if they had even pulled the charging Handel back and let it go they would have known there was a problem so there is no way they test fired it then i got 2 thinking most likely they didn't bother to check anything so i just fixed it myself took it to the next show sold it(lost about $75 outa the whole deal) i really just didn't want it anymore after that

I've had two bad experiences with Model1. The first involved parts ordered, paid for and not shipped. I had an incredibly difficult time getting the parts shipped (even though, astoundingly, they recognized the failure to ship the first time). The second involved an order paid for and shipped and then lost in shipping (the container arrived, torn open and empty), with UPS actually in some unbelievable stroke of luck admitting that they "lost" the shipment, even though I received a package (empty). I tried for 6 weeks to get Model1 to resend the parts and Model1 wouldn't do it until I WORKED THE ISSUE OUT WITH UPS. Seeing as I had not contracted with UPS for the shipment (Model1 hired them, not I), I had no basis, or privity. UPS owed me nothing, not one dime or an explanation, so what Model1 was requiring was legally impossible. I finally made them understand this - AFTER 6 WEEKS OF CALLS AND FRUSTRATION. :cuss: :fire:

From Model1 I will never again order.

I had a model 1 upper for awhile, didn't have any problems with it; but the finish wasn't the best quality.

I have a 24" varmint and a 16" dissy from them. Both have never failed to function and are very accurate. Shipping was slow on the first one(16 weeks) but that was during the "O" scare. The second one I bought took about a week to get to me. Im very happy with them so far.

I helped a young man build up a heavy barreled varmint gun for PD's. He ordered it in. Slapped it on his self built lower and was killing dogs right along with me and my $2000 custom 20 Tactical.

I've also shot and built several others over the years and had nothing but good luck. YMMV

Had two buddies who ordered uppers from them that didn't run very well at all out of the box. They got our armorer to tear them down on his own time and fix them -- if I remember right, FSBs weren't seated properly and partially obstructing the gas system.

The first two Ar's I built were Model 1. The only problem I had was the selector retaining pin was slightly oversived (on both). I reamed out the holes in the lower and everything else was OK. I gave one to a friend and still have the other. It probably has around 8k rds through it and the rifling is pretty much shot out. As long as it's clean and lubed, it goes bang every time. I've built several more since and have gone with higher quality stuff, but there's nothing wrong with model 1 sales kits.

I ordered an adjustable butstock from them a few years ago and it was kinda crappy. It really loose (unstable) and if it was ever used to hit something I'm pretty sure it would fall apart.

I've had good luck with Del-Ton.

However, right now lots of AR stuff is very nicely priced, and depending on the features you want you could get a significantly nicer upper like BCM, Daniel Defense, Spike's, CMMG, or Stag for not a lot more money. Just FYI.
