Montana Rifle Co. Opportunity, Yes or No?

The Shaws are based on Savage actions, if they haven't changed. Very reasonably priced for semi-custom rifles, if they haven't raised prices. Mine is accurate.

I have a custom rifle on a Montanan action. It won't fire, and the gunsmith who built it has retired. :fire:

They are very affordable. The only knock is that they still don't offer synthetic stocks.

and that they don't offer nicer stocks. They use Boyds, who offer much nicer stocks than what Shaw uses for the Mk VII. The one they use is pretty generic and hard to get excited about IMO.

Could probably call them and see if they will do other stuff. I've had them switch thing on barrels I've ordered. Once just as they were getting ready to ship it.....they might be willing to order a specific stock for a custom build.

I have a CZ 30-06 at my FFL I'm picking up tomorrow morning. I just got less and less excited about the Shaw the longer I looked at it. Next step is an old Mauser or Husqvarna, and maybe I will have one of those rebarreled to 280 Ackley if I can't find one in 25-06.

Is the CZ a Lefty?

Is the CZ a Lefty?

absolutely.
I had ignored CZ because they discontinued the 375H&H a couple years ago and the 557 was only available left handed for 308 and 30-06. I wasn't interested in either. Then as my interest started to flag for the Shaw rifle, I actually paid attention to 30-06 ballistics and realized I had discounted it through sheer ignorance. The more I looked at the CZ vs the Shaw, I saw the heirloom quality rifle I wanted to own. It didn't take long.

That still leaves room for me to find a cool vintage 25-06, and if I ever rebarrel anything it's going to be a 280 Ackley when I get it back.
