The wood grips on my new to me 686 are pretty thick but still comfortable. I will see how I like them for shooting before I think about changing them. My 64 has a very comfortable rubber grip that I'm sure is factory as it has no logo on it anywhere.
I have the Model 19 and the 686. I prefer the Model-19-4, just preference with the target grips. Although I do have one 19-4 that is strange. It has the wider target trigger and hammer and yet plain generic grips standard grips. I would love to get a set of matching target grips for it.
I'd go with an M19. I bought an M19-3 in college, when I turned 21. It was the first handgun I didn't have to have Dad buy. Later, I sold it. That was dumb.
