Hello, I am a newbie here. I just came into pocession of a Model 24 Winchester 16 GA SxS Shotgun from my late father,SN# 25410. I believe it was made in 1941. I know he had it from the early 1960's. He would have been 13-14years old when the gun was new. It could have been given to him by his father. I was wanting to know if a sporting gun made during the time when all the gun makers were making weapons for WW2 would have any value. I have a uncle in a nursing home who might can give me more info of the history of this gun. The gun has no rust and works great. I just need to know before I take it hunting or target practicing.

Your model 24 was made in 41...making it a pre war gun.....but yes many of the gun makers were busy making arms for our european allies...
Being a pre war gun it has a little more collector interest than a post war 24....the late 20s through 46 are my favorite era for Winchesters [mostly model 12s] lots of changes with the depression and then the war...and then early post war...gives the guns a kind of nostalgic feeling....
Your 16ga should be safe to shoot if in good condition with standard pressure shells but stay away from the magnum loads...they tend to beat the stocks on older guns to heck and can loosen up the hinge a lot quicker than standard loads...enjoy that family heirloom!!
