Excited! I just went to my local shop today to pick up my SA "GI" back from factory for bushing re-fit. Happy about that.....all is well. While there what do I see under glass on the used gun shelf? A S&W model 29-2 (pinned & recessed) .44 mag., blue, 8 3/8" barrel. NEARLY mint!!!

Best part, the price. $599.00. (Also known as $600.00)

I put some cash down on it and plan on picking it up next week.

I'm thrilled. Been looking for a 8 3/8" m29-2 and have been seeing them at shows and such for much more $$$. I'm so excited I can't wait for next week....just had to post for my joy. I'm a happy SOB.

The Great Unwashed Masses want shorter barrels.

I took a shower this morning and I still would rather have a 4" (or 5") barrel model 29. I don't want it to hunt with and I'm not trying to compensate for anything else.

Congrats on the new 29 (when you get it). I'm sure it is sweet.

Congrats, You are smart not let that one slip away, far better than anything you buy today.

Yes, I feel the deal is good. Gun looks great....cylinder locks up nice & tight, bore looks shiny & smooth, etc.

Only thing I'll want to do to it is get some smooth wood grips with finger cutouts...AND some rubber grips.

Yes, I guess it is my luck that I prefer longer barreled revolvers because I suspect this gun would have had a higher price if it were a 4 incher.

I have bought a bunch of the Herrett grips that CDNN has for $35 or so for my N-frames as they fit my hand perfectly. I just bought three more pairs. No finger grooves (I detest them) but just a quality, near Roper dimensioned grip for a good price. The wood is coca bola. Here's a pair on my early P&R'd M629.

i prefer 4" also, and DO need a shower at the moment. but good score on that'n.

Grading 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%
M29-2 $800 $700 $600 $500 $425 $375 $325

I just put a set of Pachmyr Presentaion grips on my 4" S&W 29-2. Would have preferred a set of Pachmyr Decellerator grips but hey $15 plus shipping.....

That's a score on a mint 29-2. Its good to see people who take kind to the longer barreled Smiths. For some reason unknown to me the short barreled guns get all the attention.

I just picked up an unfired 629-1 with a 6in barrel. No turn line! I can't wait to scratch a ring around the cylinder with some big .44 mags and pop the cherry.

Make sure to take some photos when you pick her up.

Nice score on the 29-2!

That bluebook of gun values is written by people who write books for a living, not by people who buy and sell guns.

That's a score on a mint 29-2

Well, not quite mint......but close. "Nearly" as I've stated. A few tiny scratches on the right side of the barrel. Hardly noticeable except under really good light. VERY faint turn line on cylinder....other than that.....No blueing wear at all that I could see.

Make sure to take some photos when you pick her up

I'll certainly try. I'm horribly computer stupid and although I do have a Kodak digi camera with the blue chip......I have no idea on where to insert the chip on the new computer I'm now using.

..."That bluebook of gun values is written by people who write books for a living, not by people who buy and sell guns."...

partially true. you have to take into consideration they can only average out current selling prices nationwide, and over a long period of time.

f'rinstance-

look at how black rifle costs skyrocketed last year durin the new president scare. an immediate change in their pricing guidelines would look look quite silly this year.

there will be a good deal of pricing differences for large caliber rifles in AK and AZ.

same between revolvers and semiautomatics from the deep south and deep north.

just trying to cut them some slack, NOT affiliated with the company in any way.

One of the best things you can get for accurate =bullseye competition level shooting with fairly powerful loads. They will shoot loose with maximum loads. i keep mine at 1000=1100 fps with 250 grain bullets.

Nice score! Financial issues caused me to sell mine a few years back and I've been looking to replace it, a 29-2 8 3/8" nickel. I enjoy watching the auction sites. The cheapest I've seen a 29-2 sell for recently was just under $700. It pays to stop by the retail establishments every now and then.
