What all does the $300 premium get you on the Super Grade that you don't get with the standard Sporter? Is there more to it than just the upgraded wood?

Is it worth the extra cash in your opinion?

I own neither but have looked at both. If I were to choose one, depending on the caliber, I would go with the supergrade specifically if I were to buy a 30.06 or larger caliber because its heavier, and thus will have less felt recoil. I own a .270 Winchester Model 70 in the Extreme weather SS and prefer it. Less rust, less worry about the stock warping (its fiberglass and aluminum).

I think the difference is the wood grade, the cheekpiece and the black forend tip.

Don't ask me if I'd spend the extra money. I paid $1600 years ago for a Cooper .22 rimfire. :) No idea what one would cost today.

The Model 70 Super Grade in .30-06 is the one I'm looking at getting. It seems like the consensus is that the Columbia, SC rifles have been really nice for the most part. I was just curious as to the differences between the SG and the Sporter.

I was at Gander Mountain today and saw a Super Grade. The bluing is about as polished as I have ever seen on anything short of a Sako. No manufacturers seem to be polishing their bluing anymore. The wood is about as nice as you will see too and that shadowline cheek piece is awesome. I made myself a deal today that I would eventually get a Model 70 Supergrade.

The sole benefit for the Super Grade that I purchased over the Sporter model is a tad bit for wood detailing, a dark fore end, and nicer finish. They are both beautiful rifles. Is the Super Grade worth the extra? It was for me, but I still like the Sporter.

Thanks for the info, guys. I went ahead and ordered the SG and it should be here next week. The ones I've seen have been beautiful rifles, so I hope the one I receive is equally as nice.

Geno, I'm also considering ording a Sporter (.270 or .308) in the near future, so I'm glad to hear that you're content with your Sporter as well.
