I picked up a very nice heavy barrel Rem 700 BDL in .308. I'd like to swap out the stock for a synthetic one. Are there any recommendations for stocks that balance price and quality? Some of the ones I'm looking at cost more than the rifle. That's a little crazy to me.

I happen to own a now discontinued Rem. 700 LVSF in extremely hard to find .308 and I like that synthetic stock quite a bit and they can be found from time to time on different gun forums in either new to used.
The barrel on my Light Varmint is thicker than normal 700's but fluted.
I think the thickness is like .652.
Not sure about your heavy barrel versions thickness
Bell & Carlson made the synthetic stocks for this Remington model.
Have seen several over the years for sell on 24Hour Campfire.com.
